The Group 44 Triumph TR8 at the 1979 Laguna Seca SCCA Trans-AM race. Forced to add 500 lbs for already being too fast against the big block Vettes, Porsche's, etc. in previous races. So Bob Tullius is leading the race but pit stops to fill up the fuel tank on almost the last lap to make weight and still easily wins. The SCCA responded by wanting to add more weight as they didn't like the idea of a small British car winning what they wanted to be an American V8 series. Group 44 told the SCCA to get stuffed and moved to the IMSA GTO class where the TR8 was just as dominant against Detroit V8's and Euro stuff.

I'm posting a link to a 1996 Trans Am race from Watkins Glen. Not the best race but representative of the era when SCCA Trans Am racing was some of the best road racing in the North America. I was a non-paid crew member for a part time owner/driver at the time and we were at this race.

Later a fellow crew member started his own race prep shop and in the early 2000's 3 of these cars ended up in his shop for work and/or storage for the current owners. They were the "All Sport" Mustang, the "Mountain Dew" Mustang, and the "Raybestos" Mustang. I worked on the first two as the owners did run them at various "vintage" race car events. We even went to Watkins Glen back in 2003 with the "All Sport" car and Tommy Kendall was there as an honored guest!

He stopped by our paddock spot sometime on Fri. and talked a while with us. I guess he wanted to visit his old race car. At that time we told him that the owner/driver was not able to attend the race due to last minute business issues and had told us to offer it to Tommy to drive if he wanted. He had to reluctantly decline as he had to many commitments for his time that weekend. He sure wanted to though!

Just finished watching some of the videos on Youtube of Jordan Cox, the young guy mentioned by Kreb. Man that kid can drive. Some amazing passes on cars faster than his Civic.
