FIL's 2002 f150 5.4 has 230k miles on it. Interior is still brand freaking new. Exterior still looks great. It's ALL in taking care of your E36 M3. He overloads it weekly and it's doing fine. (tows a 10k lbsf, 28ft regal with it every weekend to the lake.)

That good to know, I'd imagine an Expedition could do the same.

The 5.4 3 valves finally became decent motors powerwise after years of gm kicking their butts, but they get miserable mpg compared to the gm's...
As I've said before, Alberta is truck country. Try and buy a used GM pickup. Unpossible. But there are THOUSANDS of dodges and fords for sale. Its like trying to buy a honda fit vs all the other small hatchbacks. One is better than the rest.
In reply to HiTempguy:
That. In Michigan it took my father 6 months to find his next 10 ish year old GM pickup for cheap(same story for said truck's predecessor), he could have had countless Fords and Dodges, but those are cheap and easy to come by for a reason and as a mechanic he knows that.
In reply to Kenny_McCormic:
What is the reason specifically (besides the beds rotting off within 5 yrs)
In reply to ebonyandivory:
Ford OHC V8 problems, the whole damn truck in the case of Dodge (he worked at a dealer in the mid-late 90s), rust on both accounts(the GM frames seem to hold up best).

Thanks! Any opinions on say a 1999 Suburban vs. a 2000 Suburban for longevity/durability? Assuming both are a 1500 with similar options?

A bet that a <20 mpg gas-only truck is still going to be relevant in 20 years is not really a safe bet in my opinion. I dont think it matters how good it seems in 2014.
A more comical idea would be to take bets on which current ocean-front property will APPRECIATE the most by this day in 2114. Maybe underwater dwellings will really hit it big!

The 2000 with the LS engine will probably be longer lived than the old 350.
