Trouble lights, I hate them. They're hot, always put the light in the wrong place, and the bulbs fail constantly.
We were using a clamp light working on my son's car this weekend until the bulb broke. Like this:

I was out of bulbs so I stuck a LED flood bulb in it. Holy smokes! It ended up being the best work light I have ever used. I ended up taking the aluminum shield off of it and it was even better. Small, bright, light where you wanted it and not in your eyes, cool to the touch, and so far, durable.

I liked it so much I rigged up another one today with the other bulb I had.

The LED bulbs are kind of pricy usually. I came across these at Walmart on clearance for $7 each. I wish I had bought more of them.
I use those clamp lights too. I spilled some coolant on a hot bulb and it blew up. I've got to a better light too.
I see you have antacids in your shop. Glad I'm not the only one.
how well does it stand up to being dropped on the ground from 4 feet up and then kicked under the car so you can use it on the opposite side without unplugging it, walking around the car, and plugging it into an outlet over there?
because my NAPA flourescent work light takes that kind of abuse all day long..
In reply to novaderrik:
I don't know yet. I haven't tried the 4' drop. My only problem with the florescent lights is the brightness. I haven't tried the NAPA brand, maybe they are brighter than the ones I'm used to. I'm half blind on a good day, so brighter is better.
We'll see and I'll keep you posted.
In theory, and LED should be even more impact resistant.
This reminds me I need to buy a good droplight.

A band clamp and a trimmed CV boot should give this version all the protection needed.

LED bulb don't like being in sealed fixtures, the CV boot might kill the bulb. They have to shed heat. They don't generate a ton of heat, but what heat is there needs to be free to go.

I see you have a dead opossum in your shop. Glad I'm not the only one.
In reply to pinchvalve:
There's two of them. One survived being strapped to the grill of the Lemons car for two days. The other survived being dragged by it.
jrw1621, I might have to study the CV boot idea. Even if you cut the middle out of it for cooling it would protect the edge and base. Good idea.

Have some in mine too. Can't sit upside down under a dash for too long before the reflux hits.
I just get acid reflux and heartburn by LOOKING at my pos cars...
all this talk of antacids makes me really happy to note I have never had to use them so far in my 41 years of life.
I may have to look into LEDs for my clip lights. I currently have CFL floods in them
