It's been 7 months since my first post, so I guess it's about time I introduce myself to the group here.
"Hey everyone," "My name is Dustin, and I'm an auto-holic."
My automotive background is almost exclusively in 'murican V8's. I've had vintage and modern iron from each of the Big 3, and a couple other random rides along the way. Despite this, I've come to appreciate many makes and models over the years. I just haven't had a chance to interact with many of them yet. I've been reading GRM off and on for 10+ years, and usually am on this site at least twice a day. If you have a car in the project section, chances are I've read through most of the build thread.
My current daily is one of the biggest motorsport soul crushing automobiles ever produced, a 2004 Taurus SE. Luckily it was dirt cheap (my folks' old car), has A/C (most of the time), and has a good amount of room in it. I also maintain my brother's 01 Bullitt while he's stationed overseas. What that really means is I get a free project car and he gets free labor, till he gets home of course. I'm pretty versed in the SN95 world, having owned a 95 GTS, a 97 GT, and a 01 Bullitt as well.
I'm currently searching for my next project. My love of vintage American iron keeps me glued to craigslist, but at the same time, I want a car I can take to the track and actually enjoy. Yeah...I know...1st world problems... I keep coming back to the Mustang/Cougar/Falcon/Maverick platform because of the massive aftermarket support for these cars and the fact that they can be lightened quite a bit. Unfortunately it takes deep pockets to make a leaf spring car handle well, or at least decent. I want to like the Corvairs, since it's hypothetically everything I want in a car, but I just don't have that lust for them like I do the V8 RWD classics. A good friend just bought a 73 240z, but again, I don't have that lust for them. Maybe it's because I've never driven a Corvair or 240z? That must be it. Maybe I should start a what muscle car thread? No 4 door Novas please.. (I'm wondering who will be first to suggest a Miata. Probably the first guy to read this.)
Anyway, love the magazine and website. You guys are awesome.
