Meet Leroy
I've been casually on the lookout for a pickup for a while now, so when my uncle reached out a few weeks back and offered me his old truck for a price I couldn't refuse I was all over it. My uncle, who has had the truck for close to 20 years, is the other car guy and engineer in our family (and also responsible for introducing me to GRM back in my early teens via his 2nd hand magazines), so naturally it comes with a pile of maintenance records, receipts, and a couple boxes of spare parts.
Leroy (apparently my cousin picked the name and it stuck) is a 95 C1500 extended cab, 6.5 ft bed, 305 tbi, 4l60e, with 171k on the clock. Runs, stops, and rides great, steering is tight, has pretty good tires, recent shocks, brakes, and tune up. Has the bed cap and an electric fan conversion. Little bit of rust starting in the typical spots - wheel arches, cab corners, bumpers, bit on the rockers - but nothing looks too far gone and I'm planning to address it. There was mention of a possible rear wheel bearing and some coolant usage, though it didn't lose any on the drive down and I haven't noticed any bearing noise yet
Oh, and it has a brand new alternator and battery! On the drive down from VT yesterday, somewhere out in the boonies between Harrisburg and Wilkes-Barre, he started running into erratic charging issues. This ultimately culminated in an emergency battery and alternator swap in the parking lot of an Advance Auto in Harrisburg.
So, plans include Home Depot runs, hauling car parts, pulling the occasional trailer, and fixing/tinkering on things as I go. Not going to make a major project out of this, but I'd like to hang onto it for a while and it will be treated and maintained accordingly. Just pumped to have my own truck!
