I bought a "roll over" for my 4runner under the theory that it was running good when the accident occurred. Yeah, I understand the concern about liquids going the wrong way, etc but this one has done just great. $500 engine and $500 to install(I was feeling lazy that month and my mechanic friend was slow at that time of year). 45k later, the engine is doing fine. We did get to hear it run before it was pulled from the Tacoma donor.
Here's the vehicle:

Front end hit, but it looks pretty light. Hood-crumpler mostly. Fenders and wheels look unaffected.
I'm just buying the engine, not the whole drivetrain.
I'm hoping someone is still paying attention to this thread.. But, if not maybe someone can direct me to the right one. I am looking for a used 5.3 vortec engine to swap into my C/K truck. I am having a hard time finding one in decent shape at a junkyard or online. I'm contemplating ordering a turn key used chevrolet vortec 5.3 engine for sale here, https://carpartplanet.com/engines/chevrolet/silverado_1500. Some of them are for as low as 1100$ which is almost a junkyard price from what I understand. What do you all think?

Search for 1500s with a bad transmission. There's one down the road from me that I'm letting them store until I decide to buy it.

One reason that I sold our 2015 Jaguar F-Type R after only a year was learning that a used and untested engine from a wrecking yard was $20-22K, installation extra of course. The worry overcame the enjoyment.
