My son has began his cross country journey from Florida to Idaho. He searched for a few weeks for a suitable high storage capacity, reliable vehicle with a good potential for resale value & the winner was...a purple 1997 Honda Odyssey EX with 175k on the clock.
He checked it out & it's been really well taken care of, drove great. CL asking price was $2100, he got it for $1800 since it needed front tires for the trip & the the dash lights didn't work. PO just did a major service, belts, fluid changes, etc.
Before he left, he noticed the temperature would drop when doing an driving. If it was sitting still, the temp was normal. I told him the thermostat was probably stuck open & it was, so he replaced it. He also found some good used tires for the front for $50. I thought he should go new, but he went with the used. He checked the brakes, the timing belt fluid levels. Everything was fine.
So he & Barney took off & 500 miles into the trip in Louisiana the transmission cooler sprung a leak. He got an aftermarket cooler kit from O'reillys, cut out the hoses from the leaker, installed the new one with some zip-ties & was back on the road.
No more problems & currently in New Mexico. Although he said Barney is putting excessive wear on the inner edge of the front right tire.
So Barney will get an alignment, some NEW front tires & be available for the next leg of the C4 back across the country for whoever needs a cheap trip.
Oh ya & Barney got an upgrade of more interior space by leaving 1 of the rear captains seats in Florida. he had to have space to bring my CTR B16 :)
