So, I may have a line on a nice '89 900 Turbo. It's in otherwise great shape but 2 things: 1) it's an auto and 2) that auto seems to shift higher than normal in 2nd gear. Or so he tells me. I'm guessing it would need to be replaced, worst case. Anyone have experience with what it would cost to swap in a used or rebuilt unit? I can't do it myself due to a lack of driveway and skills required far beyond mine.

Thanks!

Don't bother. It's going to cost a good bit of coin if you can't do it yourself, and when you're done, it's still going to be a E36 M3ty 3 speed automatic. Nice automatic C900s are worth swapping to a manual. Crappy automatic C900s are parts cars.

I guess their mechanic told them the cable needs readjusting?

Here's some information about adjusting the C900 automatic:

I'd still pass unless the car is otherwise perfect and you don't mind driving a car with a miserable transmission.
