I guess my only gripe about drinking and driving is that I've managed 22 years with my license NEVER having done that and you know what? It really wasn't difficult at all, just took a little sense and/or planning ahead. That's my problem with it. Drunk driving isn't a "mistake" it's a PISS POOR DECISION .
Well ive only been licensed 11 years but i agree with this. I dont even have a single drink if im driving. I know too many people currently in prison for vehicular manslaughter too ever think thats a good idea.
Now I am unsure of the ability to report DUI after the fact and actually prove anything anyway, if I were the guys who driveway got used however I would make it very clear to my wife's coworkers friend whoever that I want no part in helping legally sidestep a DUI, that to me would seem like potentially putting yourself at risk. This is also the kind of thing where I don't think "he's really sorry and won't ever do it again" is something you can put much faith in.
but all this other stuff about trying to go over the top to sabotage/beatup/otherwise stick it to the guy is ridiculous. None of it would really change or help the situation or be more likely to help the idiot guy change his ways. The only real thing it might do is make him decide to specifically target todd or his family when hes drunk and wanting retribution when he can blame him for it instead of himself. I agree with the earlier poster about distancing yourself from it/them/him as much as possible
I don't disagree with any of these sentiments whatsoever, and if I were OP the car would already be gone by whatever means necessary. I just don't get the calls for further retribution; I'm with SVrex in the sense that GRM is not judge, jury nor executioner, and the prevailing attitude here that nobody's E36 M3 stinks one bit is just laughable. Ugh, I'm done with this thread now. Wish I had never looked in the first place.

Dont let the facetious remarks some of us made earlier sway anyone from realizing that we agree far more than we disagree which is almost always the case.
(I'm still not backing down that if it were my driveway, there may indeed be a physical confrontation of some kind. A-holes I can deal with. A-holes that knowingly drag me into the fray I cannot)

Yep. Got a working rototiller too. I had to restrain myself or I would have brought more "junk" home too.
In reply to bgkast:
Really? I'd take them off your hands, got a Beemer that could even use em!
I have to change a MINI transmission. Can I borrow somebody's driveway?

There's a book for that now.
Relevant to thread, I got home late last night and I just now remembered that I left my phone in the car. Wander outside and then
waaait... this isn't my car.

That's Stupid.
Keep it up and your kids are gonna be fatherless.
Either someone is gonna press charges and get you locked up, or they are gonna shoot you in self defense.
You can't threaten and assault someone with a deadly weapon for driving on a public road, even if you don't like their driving.

The OP only made 5 posts in this thread. Only 2 of them had any facts.
Every other post is wild speculation, or fabricated nonsense sprinkled with a heavy dose of threatening machismo bullE36 M3.
The OP seems like a decent level headed guy who makes pretty good decisions, who wanted to share a humorous car-related life moment.
Too bad some of you would rather try to prove how manly you are and turn the thread into a stinking pile.

Well, you are wrong. It's a crime.
You drew first, and anyone who draws to protect themselves from you is acting in self defense.

Right, but he didn't say how drunk, over the limit, or when. He didn't even say it contributed to the accident.
He said he swerved to miss a deer and hit a curb.

You can defend yourself from things other than guns. Such as speeding vehicles.
Only if it is speeding at you.
You are acting like a vigilante over a minor traffic infraction. It's illegal.

Doesn't matter.
The minute you pull the gun you committed a crime. A dash can or phone camera will prove you wrong.
If a neighbor sees you, you will loose when you lie to the officer.
And if it's me, and my kids happen to be in the car, I will swerve the car and run you over. I will be acting in self defense against the crime you committed.
Grow up.

Yes it does. Blood alcohol level.
And the OP. Didn't actually say he was drunk when he hit the curb. You assumed that.
I'm pretty sure no matter where you are in the USA that pulling and pointing a gun at anyone who is driving by your house, for the pure purpose of intimidation is highly illegal. You're lucky not to be in jail.

I agree, drunk driving sucks, and deserves a strong response.
But several of you are willing to commit a crime in retribution for minor trespassing of a quasi acquaintance? Piss in his air vents? Shoot him?? Seriously???
Yeah, he could have done better, but this doesn't even make a blip in the radar of inconsiderate acts.
Good grief.
I am happy to see that he is out nearly $1000 and has been thoroughly inconvenienced and publically shamed for drinking while driving. Wouldn't mind seeing him loose his license either.
But I'm not gonna shoot him.

You should not be allowed to own a gun.

This is why there needs to be better mental health screenings for gun owners.
We have had a problem with people running the stop signs at the end of our street. We, the people of my neighborhood, decided to complain to the police department about it. They, realizing it's their job to enforce these traffic control devices, posted little red flags to the side of the stop signs, had tree limbs removed so they were easier to see and increased patrols in the area specifically looking for stop sign runners. It has worked out pretty well.
Of course we all could have taken turns sitting out there in a lawn chair with our guns like a bunch of idiots but I guess we have more common sense than that.
I'm not making assumptions. You said, "I point pistols at the people who run the stop sign in front of my house. I have kids. I usually do not get repeat offenders."
I have a feeling you just said it to be a internet bad ass but in the off chance that what you said is true then you sir, are an idiot.

I don't think this needs to be on the GRM forum anymore. I'd be more than happy to continue this discussion through PM's if you want.
