I got some new wheels about a month ago, and of course, they needed hubcentric rings. well, I ordered the wrong size (because I am an idiot) and the correct size finally came in. she has been pretty smooth... up until last night, when I put the rings on. now I have a horrible shake.
what should I be looking for?
Is the wheel sitting flush against the hub? Bolts or lug nuts?
YEs, I've seen hamfisted people smash the wheels on catching the hubcentric rings. Thats why you should always run all the lug nuts up snug in a cross pattern to center teh wheel before tightening them.

I had some spacers give me a bad shake when I stacked two together. Replaced them with 1 thicker one and cleaned up the surfaces and the shake was gone.

Yes... I think, they might not be, I will have to check.
And lugnuts.
Btw, these aren't spacers, just rings to make the bore of the wheel match the hub of my miata.
Could be the wheel just didn't seat quite flush the first time installing. I imagine they're fairly tight. Torque in a few steps in a criss-cross pattern with the wheel off the ground (may not be able to get final torque with the wheel off the ground). I like to rotate the lug I'm tightening to the 12 o'clock position.

That is what I am hoping. I will take the wheels off, and take a look. I know they were tight, and thy could easily be angled.... Even a half a degree would be felt.
Thanks.

Do this and you won't need the rings in the first place.

It's what I've done for years. The only car with them is only because I was too lazy to remove them as they came pre-installed on the wheels from TireRack.

The only car i have that uses hubcentric rings is because i redrilled the bolt pattern myself.
