I need something bigger, so my beloved R53 is going to be on offer.  I've bought and sold a lot of cars, maybe 50 or so. But this one is REALLY hard for me to get a value for. When you're talking the first gen cooper and cooper s cars the prices range from 'please get it out of here' to $6K. This one is tricky because of the mods, and the market.
Here's the info I have:

2005 Mini Cooper S - 92K miles located in SW Florida
white pepper exterior, two-tone leather interior
Self-leveling Xenon headlights
Manual transmission with ESC Clutch (can't confirm clutch, haven't' laid eyes on it, PO had it done)
Rear wiper doesn't work, everything else does. And it sounds GLORIOUS!!

I'm normally averse to a bunch of mods, but this one seems to have all the right ones. Megan coilovers with adjustible damping, urethane bushings everywhere, upgraded supercharger and crank pulley, oil catch can, performance throttle body with button on the dash to switch between how it responds to the right foot, all kinds of performance mods that are high quality, not Pep Boys isle 4 stuff.
Here's pics

So, what do you think? I took it to have a tire repaired this morning and the tire guy's brother is interested, but I really have no idea what to price it at. I know that you can't say "well, it's a $4,000 car with $10,000 inmods, so I need $14,000" but like I said, these are all performance mods from reputible companies. I hope that does something.

Sadly that car is worthless. But I'd be willing to help you out and give you $1500. Can I pick it up next week?laugh

From my point of view, mods lower the price of a car unless I personally know who installed them. Most buyers won't care, the ones that do, like me are leary of poorly done mods.

If I was selling it, I'd look it up on JD Power and KBB, price it somewhere near high retail or slightly above, and send it down the road.

I would call you out as a vulture but I had the same exact thought..................

Same here. I actually dropped this car off my radar until I looked at the pics closer and realized the mods that were installed were high-dollar stuff. Then I went to look at it to prove that it was a turd so I could get it out of my head. I got there and realized there was a lot done, and it's pretty much exactly what I'd have done.

I'll echo that the mods won't add much, may even retract some buyers as they may think it's been run hard.

I just picked this up 3 hours ago.  2007 S with 45,075 miles.  1 owner with dealer service records. Manual, sport seats, roof, heated seats. She was asking $7800 and I gave her $7800.

It's still on the trailer, I got back 15 mins ago.

That's a 4K dollar car to me. Generic coil overs like Megan, etc. and urethane bushings definitely hurt its mass appeal. Were it me, I'd immediately undo all that. If someone likes how it's set up now, maybe start it at 5k or 6k and see where you land.

Lowest mileage '05 Cooper S at auction brought $2200, but it appears to be pretty beat up.

A much nicer one with just over 100k brought $3400.

Generally I assume mods add $0 unless you find the absolute perfect buyer. Private party, I'd start it at $6k, see how much interest it garners

I'm glad my better half doesn't have an account here. She would be all over that.

I agree, pricing will be hard... also dependent on how quickly you need it to sell.  I arguably paid a premium for my R53 back in 2016 because I'd known the seller for years, the spec was almost exactly what I wanted and the few mods it has were ones I would have done to the car anyway, so it saved me time.  About the only thing I need/want to change is the suspension, but I have all of the parts to do that.

I'd also start at $6K to $8K on the enthusiasts sites (NAM, FB groups, etc.) and be patient. If anyone is actually serious about buying, then you can negotiate.

Value is also why I doubt I'll ever sell mine.  It's not worth enough to go through the aggravation of selling it.

Thanks all, I appreciate the feedback.

Steve_Jones, that's a NICE looking car.

I'm only selling because I need a truck, or actually a minivan for hauling and light towing. I'm tempted to keep the car, put a hitch on the Outback and buy a small trailer. As much as I don't like the thought of selling it, a minivan is incredibly practical and a mini is incredibly not.  I'm still on the fence.

I'm glad to see more than one person say price it at 6K and go from there. That's the number I had in my head.

If your not towing more than 1500lbs an Outback and a small trailer will do the job..................says the guy with an Outback. Mine is a 6 speed manual and allegedly good for 2700lbs.

All I can really say is after 20 years in the area MINI clubs, I have lost count of how many folks who sold their R53 for a different car/MINI version and eventually ended up buying another one some time later.  My ex- will never sell her 2003 (bought new).

I feel like its so hard to get cars like this these days, especially built the way you want and sorted out. If you ever feel like you'll want this car again, you're going to end up paying double/triple whatever you end up selling this for, I guarantee it. No way you can keep it?

lol, this my 6th one. My first was a 2002 non S, blue with white top. I was the first person to take delivery of the "new" Mini in 2002, I have a letter somewhere from BMW and a T shirt with an odometer clicked to 4 (as it was VIN #4).

I agree that is a $5-$6K car.  If I was in the market and saw it for $6k, I'd inquire about it and see where we ended up.

Edit.  I'd vote keep it if you have the room, funds, etc.
