It could be that what I want is not available anymore. Or never existed and my memory is bad. Or googles just can't do what grm can.

Looking for a *double* adjustable front strut for vw mk2/3 golf corrado passat (whatever) fitment 1985-92(99)

I thought Koni had some but can only find the yellows. Would consider a non-oe fitment but need adjustable compression and rebound.

Go.

What I remember is that there were never just bolt on struts, but you could get inserts that fit the housings that the top unscrews, and someone (maybe ground control?) sold custom coilovers too.

For the Konis, I think you have to contact them directly for double adjustable struts. I know there are companies that will convert Konis and Bilsteins to double adjustable, but can't remember any names off the top of my head.

Ok I did see the 8611 inserts but very little detail available on dimensions etc.

Have you tried to source them via FCP Euro?

They have a pretty good website wherein you can drill down on exactly the make and model of the vehicle, and if that fails, they're pretty responsive with their "contact us" feature.

For A1's, They were general Koni Race inserts. 8611-1257 for the DA version. I know Lella autosports makes custom strut housings for A1-3 to fit those inserts. We just built our own back in the day with Ground Control perches but that option is available

Yeah, double adjustable Koni means the Race shocks. They're outside the usual Koni stream, I think they're hand-built.

Ok perfect, thanks guys. Confirming the konis were and insert only and the link to Lella has me on the right path. Spendy but probably saves me a bunch of headache.
