The beauty of the internet is that certain things get repeated until they become "Fact" and are screamed at you all over the internet.
Lets point out a few to get this board rolling.
I will start with one:
Myth-Twin engine cars need the engines to be perfectly synchronized or else one will push the other causing mass destruction.
Explanation-the engines dont know why their life is easier, it just is. A second engine only adds enough power to lighten the load on the first, not to overdrive it. If you aim your car down a really steep hill and accelerate full throttle-does your engine explode?
The Fast the Furious
Very little about any of these movies is true or even makes sense. They are for entertainment. It is like saying that Die Hard or the Matrix are real. They aren't. They may have some ideas or plot point based on reality, but they aren't. They are movies and meant for people to escape the real world for a few hours.
QuasiMofo will finish a project.
You said myths, right?
CarKid will finish a project. Or Carkid won't ask about something completely out there and be surprised when he gets a collective "Meh, finish the Miata." from the board.
There won't be a political discussion where someone will get bent out of shape or won't get buried in the details to see the bigger picture.
My Celica will someday move under it's own power.
engine's need backpressure.

If a car rolls over it will catch fire, no. I can also state that the car CAN catch fire without rolling over. Did I bust two myths?

If I'm in a crash, I have about 30 second to sprint away from the car before its engulfed in a giant fireball explosion.
MR2's are not cursed abominations.
Seriously, the myth that Iike on the internet is how to improve gas mileage. It's a list that has been circulated about filling up early in the morning and using the recirc system to capture more gas, etc. All sound logical, but are totally BS.
Miatas are only driven by gay men.

They don't explode until you jump...
Said before:
Myth: Engines need SOME backpressure to run at thier best or even properly. Explanation: You are an idiot. Why is it you never hear of a racing team spending thousands of dollars on that last elusive 1 p.s.i.? Cuz they don't, cuz. Look at a top fuel dragster. These engines need repeatable max power more than any other race car since they only have a little over a thousand feet to perform. Look at the pipes on those babys. There is no backpressure at all, they would be perfectly straight if they weren't looking for the downforce provided by the exhaust pulses.
The ford probe was a horribly named car. So they made a second one with more mazda parts and it got better. Kept the horrible name though.

Everyone knows that isn't true, a lot of women drive them too :)
