Does swapping a Disco to a Chevy V8 do anything to help reliability or is it some sort of innate feature of the chassis?

It's massively (not) going to help with the longevity of the transfer case and transmission...

I think the other two are a bit more rare, which might mean more dollars, but not sure. I honestly know nothing about their reliability, but love how BMW v8 cars run. If you DIY it's probably not a big deal to upkeep. I got eaten up by a 540 when I didn't DIY, but it was all minor crap with a lot of labor involved. The driving experience is always first rate.

It's probably a horrible idea, get a Toyota.

I seem to remember someone doing these as professional conversions, but there are also a ton of amateur ones.

I've never had a DD blow up in my life. And there's no way in hell i'll drive a new "Cherokee." That's not a Cherokee. That's a hideous and stupid car-based cute-ute garbage whatever.

EFI Samurais aren't so bad at 70MPH if kept in good tune. I think EFI and tin top are mutually exclusive due to year by year changes.

How about other Suzuki trucks? They're all true body on frame, unlike the XJ. An X-90 perhaps?

The 85 is the one to get. 1st year for EFI and last year for solid front axle. Buy it now.

I had an IFS toyota and it also was great. You can't go wrong. Except with rust.. but hey..

I owned a stock 87 4x4 Toyota pickup with the 22re and had my 99 XJ at the same time. I much preferred the XJ and sold the Toyota after fixing a blown headgasket (it's 2nd in 150k). IMO the 1st gen 4runner would be a big step down for a DD.

If that Land Cruiser in the first post was within a couple hundred miles of me, it would be sitting in my driveway right now.
