Part out more than likely. Worth about 3-4x in parts what it's worth as a whole.

If you want to buy it. If it were an extended cab i'd be more interested.

I didn't need to be reminded of the existence of the old rwd 626 coupé... I've been wanting to own one since my first car (a 4 door rwd 626).

Do you guys have much knowledge on the g6? I may need to start an info thread. Let's just say that my f2 8 valve turbo plan fell apart when both my spare engines were toast and a 300 dollar b2600i found its way into my yard.

I just think it's a really cool car and it will be unfortunate to hear if he does part the car out. But I don't want to own it myself so it's none of my business what he does. I'd love an F2T under the hood of my SX4, though...

Well the thing is- his chassis is bent all to berkeley, its been totalled like 3 times. Even if he does go back to a gd chassis, a different shell is in order.

Yeahhhhh if i were to build an MX6 from the beginning, i would pretty much do the opposite of mine. Fun car don't get me wrong, but mine is a total pile. It was finally dethroned on Tuesday from the title of "most mangled vehicle i've ever owned."

And i'm pretty sure it's been messed up worse than the Jeep was.

Put it another way: i wouldnt sell it as a whole to anyone at this point. I wouldn't want that on my conscience.

That said... I think i need to focus on suv right now. In my old age i need to be more responsible.

And i've pretty much settled on a Montero. Because they're so berkeleying cool.

In reply to daeman:

The g6 is really similar to f2, just bigger. F2 exhaust manifolds should bolt up. Motors should do 350-400ftlbs unopened pretty easily.

In reply to Swank Force One:

That was kinda my thoughts. They seem to suffer head/gasket failure a bit though? I've got both the g6 and f2 sitting here so I'll seek to confirm manifold interchangeability.

I was reading somewhere a guy made about 350hp at the wheels with a t3/t4 running 8psi on stock internals. That seems like cheap fun to me

Also, yeah, the boxy Montero's are pretty damn cool.

Toyota 4Runner gets my vote. My wife and I have 190K+ on our 1998 model, and it does everything well. It's also anvil-reliable. My only complaint is that the seats are too hard and hurt my low back on long (4+hr) trips. As a bonus, the A/C is cold, and to quote my uncle, "wow! Your old truck has quite the furnace!" So its got an incredible heater too.

I'm still going with 10 year old German SUV just for the entertainment value on both sides. You'll love it while it is working and we will get to hear about all the random things that break. We will never hear anything again if you buy a Toyota. There will just be self satisfied posts about how well it works and how it never breaks down.

toyota swap into a german suv, all of the reliability, none of the returning back to the earth from which it came.

also I'll be the descender here. Nissan Pathfinder. very capable, highly under rated, solid, reliable with parts availability and they don't seem to rust as much as the toyota truck/suv equivalents. Bonus if you swap a stillen supercharger onto a VQ powered one.

One thing in not getting is down shifting. Like if I'm in 3rd going 35-40mph and need to go to 15mph not really sure what to do. I will usually brake and put I into the gear I think Is appropriate for the speed, but it def doesn't feel smooth

Sweeeeet.

The 3.5 SR is nice for the locker, but somewhat difficult to find, and the DOHC 6g mitsu has a less than stellar reputation in the hands of non-DIYers (i think the 3000gt crowd considers it good practice to just go ahead and replace the rod bearings every 60k no matter what, if that tells you anything) although it's great for making ginormous boosted power. The earlier 12v 3.0 and the later sohc 24v 3.0 and 3.5 are much more reliable and easier to work on, but you lose the factory locker either way (although it can be swapped in).

I prefer the Gen2.5 overall, so i'd be on the hunt for a 98-99 with cold weather package to get the locker and SOHC 3.5, then later get some 4.62 gears out of one of the DOHC trucks.

Alternatively would take a clean 2000 even though they don't have locker, and just swap it in later.

Anyways, talked it over with SWMBO last night, and i think we're doing to do something a little "out there."

As of right now we're planning on getting Jaynen's Gen3 Monty, but SWMBO will be driving it. We're test driving one locally to make sure that she'll be ok with something that much bigger than her XJ, but putting her in something newer (though only 3 years) and nicer (MUCH nicer) feels like a good idea.

Then, i will probably sell the remaining XJ to get a Gen2.5 Monty. Yes, it's super tempting to use the parts from the Cherokee of Rarity to just 5spd swap the Blue XJ and drive it, but one thing i've noticed about the Monteros is that there's not much aftermarket, and they're still quite capable. This is good. I won't even be tempted to build a $30k truck, because the parts aren't there, like they are with the XJ. And because the Monteros are undervalued, i can get a lower miles truck for the same or less money than what i'd get out of the blue XJ.

So that's the plan at least. SWMBO gets a nice new rig with heated seats, sunroof, and leather to feel fancy without taking a MPG hit. I get a new toy to learn about and convert to full on Pajero-spec because that is cool.

I want to build this. Wouldn't take much money, and would overall probably be better as an overland rig in every category over an XJ other than rock crawling.
