The title reminded me of what I remember as a child.  My parents moved from an apartment to a house in the late 50's.  The house had a garage but it was built in the 20's and must have been designed for Model T's or A's as my father's '50 Merc didn't fit. Since the garage was made from two layers of brick he removed the inner layer which allowed him to park his car inside.  Years later he extended the front of the garage a couple of feet which allowed him to buy what was considered a "normal" size car for the  60's & 70's.
