Spent a good part of Saturday helping the minion transport the hoard of Ford Cascar engine parts that he just bought. Somewhere in this pile of parts there are enough bits to build  over a dozen 302 and 351 engines. In race trim, the engines would put out about 400 hp for a 302 running iron heads and manifolds.

The highlight of the buy that pretty much pays for the whole thing is this SVO 351 block.

So, what does "SVO" embossed on the side of a 351W block do?

Maybe slightly less likely to split down the middle?

triple it's value.  the early ones are made in Australia and came in Pantera's but really it's a denser block and other strength stuff.

I would be that that block has 4 bolt main bearing caps on at least the center 3 mains if not more. The casting is stronger, it weights more then a normal block and I would bet it's good to over 1000 HP!

I think the early blocks were Cleveland based,  Ford later redesigned the casting and went with a Windsor pattern that they cast in North America.

That pic looks like it could be a Cleveland height 351, 9.2” vs 9.5”.

Ford in their infinite wisdom made the 9.2” deck blocks to allow use of “regular” Windsor heads with a different intake. It was a rules workaround, IIRC. There is a lot of various engine dynamics that are in play with the shorter deck height that are highly favorable.

i dont think the 351's were nearly as prone to that as the 302's were

Not my deal, so will pass you on to the Minions (Pete) FB page to go ask for yourself. I believe that the intent is to put together as many running engines as possible and only then start selling the left-overs. This has to pay for stuff like food and mortgage, so I am not thinking that challenge priced is the operative word yet. Even if the cost was attractive, the border and shipping cost does stupid things to the budget, big reason you don't see Canadian challenge entries.
