Would a truck prepared for track use be considered a race car ? It has a gm frame. There is one locally for cheap.

We've had a race jeep and a toyota tacoma (powered by a supercharged mid-engine buick!!) compete in the past, so I would not expect it to be a problem.

If you have any questions about the rules or how they apply to your vehicle, send an email or PM to Per Schroder.

It started life as a car has been converted, welded in cage

If it is a purpose-built tube framed race car (i.e. not based on a production vehicle) it may fall in the "specials" class...see rule #28

A Special class for locosts/race cars/kit cars/etc. will be run for exhibition only. It will be scored independently from the rest of the competitors. The Special-class competitors will only be eligible for the Special-class trophies, unless one of them explodes spectacularly. Then we may reconsider. Special-class cars must also meet the classification requirements for a recognized autocross class (for example: SCCA’s A Modified). These cars must meet all Challenge budget rules and safety regulations with the following exceptions: a) The cars do not have to be roadworthy. Headlights, windshields and horns are not required. b) Non-DOT approved racing slicks are allowed.

That may not apply to you, though, if you are using a factory chassis.

It is using a factory Malibu frame but a truck body. Think it is in a grey area. I am looking at it on Sunday.

There have been others with alternate frames/bodies. You are supposed to keep the original floor pans

I figure it would be a dedicated track car, for hpde has to be safer than a street car. The tubular control arms are worth what he is asking.

I bought it 300 for a rolling chassis

I think you should be fine. The yellow Bug wasn't a bug underneath and there was also the '50s car with a P71 underneath.

I am torn, should I build the truck for this year (there is time) or finish current build of adding turbo to my 240sx.

What would you do?

Which one is more crazy/over-the-top? That's what I like

Combine the turbo'd 240 and the truck?
