The green one from the original fast and furious movie!!!!
It would be awsome right up until it isn't....
Keep the ideas coming. More details and reasons, the better. Pretty much, convince me of your bad idea and i may just do it.
Small and light. If a Pinto in good shape could be had, get that. Then, 302, or 5.3, or something that can get 300hp out of. With pinto, plenty of easy go fast suspension goodies that are cheap! Then add in a 3 link rear suspension with a 4 point cage at a minimum in the rear.
18x10's with 275's on there then. Sounds like a winner to me.
Volvo. Turbo. Wagon.
I may just be saying that because it's been my automotive obsession of the week, but seriously that ought to do the trick pretty well I'd think.

I'd definitely buy a parted out flood victim c5 roller and start from there
This is probably going to happen next year. The more you guys respond, the better the ideas get.
Of course, any action on my behalf will wait until jenny finds a new gig and i can make sound financial decisions based upon the new income level.
May have to gofundme....
Lol
Keep it up!

Any early 2000's Grand Prix GT? Some really beat up v6 Acuras or Accords? A Legend would be pretty sweet.

any FR configured wagon is a good starting point in my opinion. swap in a stock-ish LSX (truck) motor so it'll have good power, but not stressed like forced induction. Wagon for easy hauling/packing and cover (naps!). I said e46 for decent out of the box handling, but budget could make it harder. an e34/e38 w/ blown motor might be easier to find in budget.

VW TDI 4 cylinder and a turbo the size of your head?
SN95 mustang.
Better front suspension and brakes than a fox body. Same factory power and currently cheaper.

I have a 400$ corolla wagin.....
Dusterbd13,. yur elky with major brakes...bed cover(campershell)....gearvendors OD....nitrous ....engine tweaks....susp tweaks....stop me when you've heard enough...
A couple of things.
As of this afternoon 18 of 68 entrants failed to finish at least one event. Some fixed and went on, some went home. These are not old crap boxes, they're cars that have been prepared for this, and there is a 25% failure rate.
Brakes. These are important and I would make damn sure I could get good proper track pads for whatever I'm looking at and that the brakes on the car are adequate for the job at hand. Brake failure sucks.
Simple things like cruise control, good seats, and good headlights are a must.
The more you drive this car before hand, both on the street and on track, the better you are. Last minute stuff bites you in the ass.
Miatas work, but they work best with a trailer.

Yeah, it seems like it's a grueling event like an endurance race, except longer.
You want stock in the best condition you can get.
I would buy the smallest $800 Honda I could find and spend $1217 replacing every single maintenance item on the car.

Except for the nitrous and camper shell, the elky already has all this.
Really, it could easily do it. A little refinement here and there, and run with it.
However, i am of the school of thought that you never put anything on track that your not willing to set on fire and walk away from.
Im not willing to do that to the elky.

How about an Alfa Romeo Milano? They seem to do well in 24 hours of LeMons and the one I had was pretty reliable. They have other problems (windshield or new clutch is $$$$$, and the headlights are awful) but they handle well and have decent brakes and even plenty of both stock replacement and performance parts available (actually a lot better than a neon lol). All you would absolutely have to do is a timing belt and water pump and replace all the fuel lines (of which there is quite a lot).
A w124 Mercedes 400e or w210 e430 (or similar reasonably powerful model) would work too.
I think you would be hard pressed to beat SVreX's old SVX as a starting point.

Thats the point. A decent chunk of challenge cars aren't old crap boxes either. I'm confident my current build could complete the challenge, the one lap, and the UTCC and not be embarrassed at finish place in either.

What does the bottom end of one lap look like? How fast are they? I guess you could count on someone dnf ing so as long as you finish you want be dead last

We were pretty damn close to the bottom in a fairly stock 2009 Civic Si. Going slow isn't really an issue, there is a place for cars at the back. What Brock wants to see is a car that is prepared well and driven hard. If it's fundamentally slow then that's just the way it is. If you show up unprepared, either as a driver or mechanically, that's when there's an issue.
