Over the last few years I've really enjoyed reading through build threads for the challenge cars (and other grassroots builds), but I also kinda like to be surprised by really cool builds that show up to the challenge totally out of the blue after being kept under wraps for a year or two. What do you guys like to see more, and why? I guess I enjoy a good mix of the two. Thoughts?
I like build threads. I'm much more interested in the problems encountered and solved than a high level "well, we put a fan in a Corvette" sort of article. Of course, there's nothing that says the build thread can't be released after the Challenge.

Yeah, that might be the best of both worlds.
If I put up a build thread it keeps me motivated. They are a major PIA to post though.

That's why I started one here.
I thought of waiting until it was mostly done before starting the thread, just so I'd have a lot's of info, but decided that it might keep me motivated if I put it out there. Currently waiting for parts

Yup. I hate to back out of something once I say I'm going to do it. Saying so to the "public" forces me to work harder and stick to my plan. On my projects without build threads, motivation is much more sporadic. Plus, talking through it helps to be sure you actually have a plan and are mildly confident in what you're doing.

I kept them on the downlow until they run one event, then I post them up for subsequent improvements for following years.
That said, I have never built or been involved in a build of a car that had a chance for the overall win. I don't know how much I would divulge in that situation.
