Has there ever been a "Daily Driver" or similar award/class?  Just curious

Not that I'm aware of. Closest thing I think is person who gets longest distance Drive award

I am not aware of such a award/class, but, should there be?

Speaking only for myself... I would find it more interesting.  Let me speculate on a few rules for a sec:

  • Driven at least 5k per year
  • Never 'under the knife' for more than 24 hours (48?) (no crazy swaps, crazy boost, etc.)
  • Passes emissions - has a cat, doesn't throw OBD2 codes
  • Mostly intact interior (at least passenger compartment)

** I have never been to a challenge.

We've had several daily drivers compete in the Challenge, but there isn't a separate class for them.   The most impressive that immediately comes to mind was the sneaky Mitsubishi Mirage 4-door that had an entire DSM drivetrain mounted beneath!   I think he ran low to mid 12 second 1/4 mile times, AND was impressive on the autocross.  IIRC the builder was a very nice guy who was also an engineer for Chrysler.

From the outside it was just a white, 4-door Mirage....... with a baby seat in the back!    The owner drove it daily, and shuttled his kids around in it.   What a cool sneaky machine!
