There's a jam session? What kind of music?
Jug band. Bring your Jew's Harp or wash board :)
All I have is a trumpet and a flugelhorn.
I've got a flugelhorn too! I use it to make obnoxiously loud noises on New Years Eve. The rest of the year it sits in the corner. I can bring it if I come down, but be prepared for me to get drunk and annoy the living E36 M3 out of everyone.
On a slightly more serious note, I have considered getting an acoustic bass...

I figured we'd have both kinds of music, punk and metal.
I second that.
And when you mix them together, you get something like this.

I've been looking, too. At first I figured a $200 Epiphone (at least, I think it was an Epiphone) would be perfect. Then I tried a Fender Kingman. Yes, it's more, but wow it sounded (and felt) awesome.
Realistically, I'm thinking a baritone electric next.
I was hoping to make this my first year, but looks like the later date overlapping the Baja 1000 will preclude that. I'm still building my truck with the challenge in mind just in case though!
I want to make this my first challenge as well. I got the right stuff (engine, trans ,wheels & tires) except the potential challenge buggy was WAY too rusty after the seller said only surface rust
