stupid question. maybe not.

my WRX is hacked to hell and back. firewall and trans tunnel cut massively, wiring harness chopped up to bits. core support cut. none of which really needed done but hey, i'm a sucker for someone else's project because the hard part was done already, right? also i'm having exhaust issues where if the steering was on the wrong side of the car would fix themselves. oh yeah, my dash is hacked up too.

so i was looking on ebay at front cuts to get all the stuff i need, and they're all RHD. problem is the ones that have everything i need(dash, floor to behind seats, unhit core, k member and rack, uncut body harness) cost lots. like $1200 lots. am I crazy for thinking $1200 is a lot for the front half of a car that was used mainly as a shipping container for an engine/trans?

the $ would put me out of challenge territory and add zero performance, but it would fix several key issues i'm having, plus this one comes with door panels and carpet and mine both suck, and i stuck the driver's door on a scrap engine while backing into the garage so...

here is the one i'm looking at

second question - shipping is $690 plus $150 for liftgate/residential delivery. the stupid thing is it's like 300 miles away, but i don't have a passport and have not intended to get one.

is there anyone here in the toronto area with a passport that would want a couple hundred bucks to get it across the border to buffalo and transfer it to my trailer in a parking lot?

if i were to get my passport card what are the requirements of bringing something like this back into the US? just drive up, say it's car parts, show receipt, go home?

Wow, WRX halfcuts are more expensive than I thought. I was finding Forester turbo front cuts for $1500-2000.

You're working on the wrong car.

yeah i do that a lot. but i only have 1500 in it, so spending another 1200 on parts seems like a decent idea right now.

i contacted the seller to see if they offer something like a rollback to get it across the border that i could pay for, otherwise with shipping i wouldn't even consider it.

seller replied quick. i can either pay for full shipping to me, or come pick it up in person.

so if i want it, i need to get someone in the mississuaga area to grab it for me and pay them to meet me in niagara falls, NY or i need to get a passport and hope it's still there when the process is done. any takers?

they did say everything pictured is included from carpet to doors to steering wheel to gauges, so nothing is getting removed after pics before delivery. lots of places i see say "gauges and steering wheel not included" or the like. the momo wheel should bring some $ from what i see.

i doubt anybody is going to jump right on it, but who knows. i need to do some maths.

i hate you woody, now i'm second guessing myself entirely - car and all.

it's ok to have 3 grand tied up in a RHD v8 swapped WRX that needs rust repair around the rear wheels, right? i know i probably won't get much for it if i tried to just sell it, and i know i'd not get much if i sold it without the engine because of the cut out trans hump/firewall and the hack job that was done to the wiring for no reason. like "holy E36 M3 i went nuts with the sawzall so the heater core is punctured and for some berkeleying reason i cut the harness by the column that had the HVAC stuff and OBD2 port on it with the same sawzall" hacked. the most valuable part of the car is probably the carbon fiber decklid, followed by the nice seats and not sure what else. i know the engine and decklid and worth more than the rest of the car.

i know i can't sniff a wrx for anywhere near that around here. the closest is a 220k mile car with a cyl 2 miss, equal wheel opening rust, more dents and wear, for $3300.

You,sir definitely hit the extra difficult button. I agree with you, $1200 is a lot for half a chassis with the dash, steering wheel, and some carpet. You should hunt for a chassis for $500 somewhere and buy the other parts from a junkyard or get a car with a blown engine for maybe $1100 or so and go from there. If you have the skills, you could make the firewall and trans tunnel yourself, if you also have the proper tools to do it. But if you do that, you should maybe figure out how to put a LS1 engine in it, too.

i think i talked myself out of it, thanks woody, as yesterday morning i was ready to impulse buy a front cut.

the entire goal from the beginning was to hit $2015. any kind of swapping or deviating from what's there would be a failure of that goal. i had to go outside and clear my head last night and work on it. started plugging vacuum leaks from my temporary EFI test setup to get things more permanent.

i could ls swap it no problem but that would kill the budget and move the rack. the biggest thing PO did right with the 350 was make stuff work with the factory rack location to not screw up steering geometry.

think i'm off the ledge. being able to flip 3 switches, push a button, and have it roar at me is a good way to keep the ADD at bay.

Good. I tried to figure out a way to do it, but the time together with trying to get it over the border without hassle kind of killed my enthusiasm. Thinking of transferring it from trailer to trailer didn't seem like a lot of fun either

that's not bad i have a s4500 superwinch on my trailer. if it can pull a suburban up before i forgot it was in park it can slide half a subie across a couple boards

moot point though, i have renewed enthusiasm for the car as it is.
