Yep this weekend it starts, all practice, qualifying and racing will be on the box.
Track looks very impressive.
God I wish i was there.

Going for MotoGP in the spring. I'm a lot more excited about this than I thought I would be when they announced the track. I really hope it's a smashing success.
Here's what I get when I try to post that link to FB

I also see them "requesting permission to store information on my computer"

When you click on the link, there is a little countdown timer for the ad that blocks the stream. Continue to wait after the 30 seconds is up. Then, hover the cursor over the blue "close" button. Once it minimizes and goes to the left corner of the ad, then click the "X" and it will close the ad. Don't try and click the "X" while the countdown is still ongoing.
Edit: nevermind. I don't post the links to FB

you actually think people want to wait 30 freaking seconds for something on the internet? that's like an eternity..
I was flipping through the channels and stopped on Speed for a minute or two. They were showing F1 cars going around the track. At first I thought it was a video game what with all the different colors of surface along side of the track.
I dont' much like F1 anyway and after seeing that bit of video I know now that I won't waste my time watching any this weekend.
The best open wheel racing was when CART ruled in the US. From the late 80's until the last 90's. Best open wheel racing ever in the USA. Going to Road America and having 70,000 fans there to watch a race was the best.
Yeah, but you can't watch mid-90's CART live. While you can watch F1. The one that's racing trumps the one that isn't.
F1's got a lot of weird artificial restraints and rules, such as the tire requirements, DRS and corners that are just painted lines on asphalt. But it's still a heck of a spectacle and fun to watch. I can't wait to see those guys come into turn 1 side by side in Austin.
Did you know that Can-Am cars were actually faster than F1 cars of the day? Wow.
Going tomorrow and Sunday. Had a buddy there today that had never even been to a car race before. He said the noise was deafening even with hearing protection.
Cool.
I was fortunate enough to head to Silverstone in '99 (the year M. Schumacher broke his leg). We weren't prepared and didn't have earplugs. We were screaming at each other for the next few days.
I've seen only one F1 race in person. San Marino in 2006. It was either the last F1 or the penultimate one there. Schumi won. I'll never forget it. My impressions: cars seem too fast to be real (I watched some Porsche GT? cars race before hand which really put it into perspective); it seems impossible that that much noise can come from such a small package; unless you can afford to buy a really good seat (that was like 500 Euro IIRC) it is really tough to watch it. You have to fight really hard to even get a glimpse of the cars. They went over the top to block any possible view to anybody without a top tier ticket. You could walk out on one of the overpasses but they had it boarded up so that you couldn't see anything. The whole thing made me feel like the organizers were being overly greedy.
It was a good way to spend an afternoon given that I hadn't ever seen one. Would I do it again? Likely not unless somebody gave me a ticket and a pit pass.
Great practice and qualifying day today. The Ferrari Challenge race was very well fought! Some light contact but nothing overly aggressive...solid racing. Seeing the old F1 cars in the vintage heat was fantastic as well. Those old cars still sound great.
One thing to note...the uphill at the end of the main straight into turn 1 is really steep. The start tomorrow should be interesting.

This. Ferrari Challenge was far, far more exciting than F1, though to be fair none of the F1 cars has officially raced yet. Track is surprisingly narrow. I was rocking my GRM shirt today!

NARROW? On TV it looks like one of the widest tracks and they've been commenting on how wide it is.
Be very careful where you click to get rid of the adverts. wait about 30 seconds for them to finish before trying to get rid of them.
