Has anyone ever challenged a GTV? I know of one available for challenge money in barn find condition. The body is not rotten and straight, but to get it in working order within challenge budget a swap would need to be done.

This obviously wouldn't be 2020 ready.

105/115 chassis? Alfetta chassis?

The name GTV has been used for 5 or 6 decades

105/115 are shooting up in value. Whatever you do make it reversible.  You could pay for 5 or 6 challenge builds with a solid chassis with title

105/115

Those things are in the 60-80K area for nice restored examples and complete but rusty examples are still in the 10K range.

One of my favorite cars. I love them so much.

I challenged a Spider to decent success a while ago.  And had plans on making a challenge car out of a 67 GT Jr until I found a different race car.  Which is another story.

Remarkable that there's still a 105 chassis in challenge budget.

Go for it.

The one question is what would your plans be?

As an incentive, I sold my GTV race car for $20k- with zero recent history.  For the most part, a challenge set up on that chassis would still be quite raceable in the vintage scene.  Some of the more interesting things is that you can get super cheap circle track springs that fit perfectly.  The real key to handling is putting in a panhard bar instead of the trunion arm in the back.

And in terms of engines, think about it for some time.  Cutting the car up for some cool engine would be fun.  But, well..  yea.

One other thing- good versions of that car is selling for quite a bit.  Not just the great ones- good ones.

Oh I think they're stunning and make fantastic noises. The thread title was a serious proper warning. I probably won't bring myself to getting it, as it'd likely end up in Lemons, with a Toyota V8 heart, when it deserves more.

The vehicle in question.

That should sell rather quickly.  Most of it's there, and finding the parts missing is pretty easy.  Didn't see the rust- so can't comment on how bad it is- but I had worse at one point- where neither floors were even there.

It would definitely look pretty. And, yeah, alfadriver is your expert here.

I wish I had the skills to tackle a project like that. Such gorgeous cars.

Looks like a 1984 GTV6 ran in 2010, but none as old as the one you posted.

I've thought about putting the rear subframe into the chassis- which I think would be reasonably straight foreword.  The front would be more difficult- cutting and pasting parts together- but I think it would work.

But for the entire frame- that would be a huge problem since the Alfa's motor is so much farther foreword that the bulkhead would be a huge problem.

In th end, it's a lot easier to make the live axle behave and mod the front as it is.  Not going to be a Miata, but a huge improvement.

There have been Spiders which are the same chassis.

I think I could make this work and for challenge $$ having done it once. The key is to find the cheap Miata that is running. Miata need never be disables, just undressed All you are going to use from the Alfa is the skin. Might need to sell off some of the italian interior bits to offset the budget. Other than that it would be quick and cheap.

so the part that I didn't see in the P1800 is the relation of the driver to the chassis.  With the Miata, the engine is behind the CL of the front wheels, whereas the Alfa, the front axle is between 2 & 3.  And the whole layout of the car is based on that,  Which means the Miata chassis would move the driver backwards by quite a bit, likely making the car a pure 2 seater.

Not that it's a problem, but the greenhouse of the car would be pretty far forward WRT the Miata seating- which would make the doors a lot more weird.  Where it's the easiest to see is the difference between a modern 124 and an classic 124.

But, the good news is that there are body shells out there that are totally ruined in terms of making a car out of them thanks to the total lack of the bottom of the car.  Maybe a special cutout for the engine/trans....

Of course it sold already. What a steal. It says rusty in the ad, but the top side looks straight. Prettiest car ever, truely Giugiaro's masterpiece.

I'm building a tube frame '73 Corolla. Similar size to the Alfa, similar issue with the bulkhead to front axle center line. I'm using Miata suspension and steering gear, which in turn dictates the driving position relative to the front axle. As you indicated, I'll be sitting rearward by several inches, like halfway to the rear seat. That part is pretty straight forward, the packaging difficulty comes about because the rear of the engine will be several inches rearward from the stock bulkhead location. I'm trying to fit an LS with the #1 plug at or behind the axle line, which is a tight squeeze to get it under the cowl and windshield.

Agreed on "prettiest car ever". If I were to hit the lottery jackpot I'd be writing a nice fat cheque to someone like Alfaholics for one of these.
