I know this is popular for the broke on the trail need to get it fixed asap 4x4 crowd or the rule benders using them at the pick and pull, but has anyone used this for "shop" use? I don't have the space or electricity, it is an open air carport, to have an air compressor to run my available air tools.
Thoughts and opinions?
CO2 makes a lot of frost and moisture coming down from pressure - probably will shorten the lifespan of your tools.
I have some friends that use it for changing tires at autocrosses
Frost yes but outside of the air line the CO2 itself is dry dry dry. N2 is also popular both work great but at a cost of cyl rental and filling. can you bolt a copressor to the roof of the car port and drag out a cord when needed?
Friend of mine uses nitrogen for spray painting. He got a professional body shop to try it and now that's all they will use. Hospitals use nitrogen to run the air tools. You know, fer cuttin' skulls open and stuff.
Not really to a compressor. Besides unless I can get 220/240 run, mine is DOA and I need a two stage deal. BTDT and fed up with the "cheap" single stage units. When I am using air tools, only a two stage keeps up.

Use the 5.0 in the background to power a pump, and get you an old Propane tank like they use down in the 'holler. You'd have air for YEARS.

Which 5.0? There are two, one you can't see behind the blue totebox and under the orange bag. That is a 5.7 hemi on the stand and a 460 on the ground. 
I was just referring to the car. The hemi or the 460 would serve nicely as well.

I'd suggest building a small storage shed to hold the compressor and your other items laying about. It would certainly secure everything with the added bonus of protecting it from the weather and keeping the compressor quieter than if it was just out in the open.
I've seen people use nitrogen at the track to run air tools, fill tires, and pressurize a keg (all in the same trailer...). It is one pretty slick setup.
He uses one of those huge bottles like they use at parties full of helium to fill balloons. It stands on the tail of the trailer inside the ramp door and hooks right into a quick disconnect. Apparently it lasts all or most of a season.
Looks like you got some room under the window shaker A/C unit a nice plywood box under it to enclose the compressor from site and you'd be good.
Yeah, Yeah....CO2 will work jus fine. BUT man, you own a DUMPSTER! You are my hero!
Actually, under the AC is a deceiving space. Not enough height for a stubby vertical or wide enough for a horizontal. I may just build that box and put on the outside of the carport on the AC side.
No, I don't own the dumpster. It's a freebie rental from the county. We have a few guys tearing down an abandoned trailer. Gaining some more vehicle storage space. 
The only thing I can think of when viewing this thread is a discussion that was had a while back on here... something about a kit that would convert a volkswagen h4 into a 2 cylinder motor with a 2 cylinder air compressor. Air cooled of course. The idea gave me a huge hard on and I wish I could find more info on this conversion...

58 CFM at 100 PSI. That's pretty cool. You could do some sandblasting with that thing.
Now that is an air compressor. This goes on my things to try list.

imagine if someone made VTEC cams that would do the same thing on a honda. Except you could drive it around on the high cams, and then turn off the VTEC solenoid and get a turnkey air compressor!
Do you have a basement or crawl space? Put it down there and run a line out! That's what I did at the old house until I built a garage. Make sure to turn the power off to it at night or you'll wake up the wife. She won't be happy.
