The ion redline for sure held the "Fastest production FWD" title for the Ring.....I can't remember if the s/c ss beat that or if the t/c ss did. Handling and braking wise, these things are great right out of the box.

I'm not saying they don't exist, just that i've never seen one. They aren't exactly falling out of the sky like the full decked out full on ricer-roni mobiles are.
I suppose i should just stay out of the thread if i don't have much constructive to say about these cars. I just completely LOATHE the way they look, the way they feel, and the interior.
Now, that all said: I drove Yamaha's Ion Redline a time or two, and it was ok i guess. It didn't feel bad. Power delivery was underwhelming but entirely adequate, handling was better than the average econobox, i liked the brakes.
Ergonomics sucked bad, nothing pisses me off more than a center mounted gauge cluster, and the visibility wasn't great overall. (Well, it was great out the front, E36 M3ty everywhere else.)
Put me in the "I'd totally buy one for Challenge prices" camp.

That was so hard to tell from your previous posts. I think there aren't too many cars more hideous than a Mazda 3, or even worse, a WRX. I guess it's a good thing there's more than one car on the market.
I don't get the universal hate for the interior, though. It's plain, simple, doesn't squeak, rattle or fall apart, and isn't gawdy like some of the Japanese cars. The seats in my wife's are flat, and don't seem like they would be comfortable, but I've driven the car all day and never been uncomfortable.

The side visibility in the ion is the worst I've ever seen before.....it rivaled the panel van I drive for work....
Mine was an 05 and I only sold it for 5k this spring.....so nearly challenge priced. It did have the stack wing, but two reasons had me keep it....1. With the IRL bodywork, it blended in pretty well & 2. It blocked out 90% of the headlights behind me

I agree. Other than... thin paint?* I like the interior better than the girlfriends Corolla.
*A good buddy has one, and that is one of the only things I really dislike about it--all the buttons on the radio have the face worn off. Same thing with the knobs; I feel like taking them off and respraying them with something better every time I'm in there.
I can understand the interior hate. The RL interior sucks. Any of the Japanese cars I have owned have had a way better interior.
That said, the nice thing about E36 M3ty Saturn interiors... they rarely get worse, at least for me. E36 M3ty but durable. I've had plenty from the early 90s where everything looks good and works, where I'll look at comparable 90s japanese cars and the dash is peeling (like my otherwise mint Z32), seats are ripped (like my otherwise mint S2000), steering wheel is dissolving, etc.
