Hi Guys,
I'm currently producing my dissertation for my degree in Motorsport Engineering. It considers whether head protection system implementation in open wheeled formulas is best for the sport and safety. It would be great to get your opinions on the subject so please take a short amount of time to complete this questionnaire.

Thanks!
Interesting questions. That halo thing looks...odd to me. The picture of Eau Rouge makes it seem like a very bad idea.

That halo idea still won't stop a bolt, spring, or other object from nailing the driver in the head.
Completed it.
One note (and perhaps I misunderstood the survey to mean that I should only take it if I approve 100% in driver protection), I did not answer this question because it did not have a "none of the above" or "optional in professional and amateur racing" option:
A head protection system should be made...*
A Mandatory in Professional levels of Motorsport
B Mandatory in Amateur levels of Motorsport
C Optional in Amateur levels of Motorsport but Mandatory in Professional levels of Motorsport
D Mandatory in all levels of Motorsport

Exactly. This shows the bias of the questionnaires' author. There should be a "None of the Above" option.
I'm not convinced that adding a tiny roof to an F1 car is an improvement. It makes getting out of an inverted car harder. Also, some pursuits are inherently dangerous. That's a big part of what makes racing interesting.
Thanks for all of your feedback.
I understand what you're saying regarding having a 'none of the above' option and that it's inducing bias. This will definitely be a limitation discussed within my dissertation so again, thank you for the feedback!
Done, will the stats be available for review, I am interested in the responses.

Providing I get the go ahead from my University I would be happy to display the results.

I tried your survey a couple times, but quit due to the lack of options regarding my possible answers.
Basically, I am vaguely affiliated with someone who has better ideas for this, without utilizing physical structures around the cockpit.
His ideas are currently being tested by F1, Indycar, and other sanctioning bodies. Another idea of his has already been implemented in F1, but is not yet "public".
Better ideas than adding makeshift additions to cockpits are already out there being analyzed.
excellent questionnaire. Where are you going to school?

IMO, trying to make open wheel/open cockpit racers safer is definitely pushing a boulder up a steep hill. I'm not saying it shouldn't be done, but every option has the potential for serious complications.

Sorry to hear it didn't offer you with the options you needed, thanks for your feedback though!
That's interesting to know, I'm currently in the process of contacting Andy Mellor through the MSA so hopefully he'll be able to shed some light on his ideas as they sound very promising. If you feel you could recommend someone who is involved in this whole process then that would be great.
