Hey all, I am looking into a car on copart, but it has a "VA-NON-REPAIRABLE CERTIFICATE".
I live in PA, is this "non-repairable" certificate going to make me unable to register/title in PA? (The car is easily repaired by the looks of it. Classified as "Runs and Drives" even...)
Could be a problem. I have branded titles as such when the vehicles were assembled out of stolen parts and it would be impossible to un-screw the title. The vehicles "looked" good, but they really weren't.
I'm in Texas so you can take that for what it's worth.

Not sure about pa,but it sounds similar to a florida certificate of destruction. It would work as a donor, or a race car that you are not intending to title.
In Florida your can combine three CD cars to make one title-able vehicle.
Hmmm, planning on calling PennDOT tomorrow to check.
Looks like I might also have to go through a broker for this one too... Meh
We'll see how this one turns out.
When I was looking, all the diamonds in the rough required a broker.
Non-repairable means the car can never be road registered again. The title has been effectively cancelled.
I think New Jersey and North Carolina are the only places you can buy from Copart without a license/bond whatever it is called.
I've been a Copart member since 2011, I'm in NY and have won auctions in NY,NJ,MA,PA, and MD. Copart has just gotten too popular so finding available gems is getting tough...well not that tough but rather expensive, since you have all the "wheeler dealer wannabees" bidding up the prices...
I bought an El Camino with a VA NonRepairable Certificate. Drove it around awhile then gave it away because to get a title involved finding a like El Camino in a junkyard and transplanting the dash (and the VIN plate) and getting that title. Too much hassle.

ditto, I started on there in 2008 and it used to be glorious, now it's not worth the headache unless looking for a donor car for a less popular swap. Even 5.3L and 6.0L pickups that just have verified engine start are getting bid up. I remember being able to get runners for $600 or less.

Was avoiding revealing what it was since they are so popular around here, but as of now it looks like I won't be getting it. The whole dash transplant thing sounds interesting, but a bit of a hassle. I have my eye on something else too.

Mind you there are some legal issues with that as well.
