I must apologize to my friend David Scott. When we checked into the $2009 Challenge we let the folks know that he was the owner and regular campaigner of the "46th Place" Team Milton VW Beetle. He did all of the driving over the course of the weekend. All I did was pay the entry fee and fail to deliver on my part of the team which was to build a car for David to drive in the Challenge. We had a great time none the less and reconnoitered the competition for next year. We were two 6 ft plus dudes, camping gear, and spare tires in a VW Beetle driving all weekend. The car made it all the way there and back. However, David said that he has never, in 15 years of aircooled engines, seen more carnage inside an engine that was still running when it was torn down for rebuild.

Yeah, okay we just like to rubberneck over the internets. Now satisfy our needs for carnage! :)

Sounds like you guys had a great time though, which is the important part.

I knew a guy who had an old bus that had almost 500k miles (supposedly). It got so bad that it would leave a solid1" stream of oil everywhere it went. When we tore it down I was VERY surprised that it was a running engine.
