Corvette Sportwagon? Seriously?

I was looking at Fiat stuff on ebay today and saw this listing for a magazine:

Egads- these really existed?

I built a 1/24 scale model of that--or pretty sure I did.

I remember I once saw a Corvette just like that in one of those "craigslist crackhead" posts on here, maybe it was a priceless rarity rather than a weird custom job.

I remember receiving that issue of CandD but I don't believe the car as shown was ever in production. GM has played a lot of games just to gauge public reaction over the years.

Remember there were also a lot of fiberglass kits on sale during that time as well. That's apparently what this was about.

It was a kit you could install on your Corvette. They weren't common but I remember seeing a few of them running around.

The 70's was full of custom creations like that.

There a few out there including the one mentioned by Gameboy that was on CL. I like them, but I'm a sucker for wagons anyway.

Fiberglass-bodied car + fiberglass-crazed '60s and '70s = of course this existed. I'm sure it was something with horrible panel gaps made in some guy's shed.

Yeah, I've seen a few for sale. They all seem to have been '74s, too.

And recently, I've discovered where at least one Sportwagon lives not that far from me.

Interestingly, I have to pass two Scoobie Doo Mystery Machine vans to get there.

For me the Mystery Machine was the only reason to watch Scooby Doo.

When I first saw the image of the Sportwagon I thought it was a Lotus Europa copy that had gone terribly wrong.

Kit car bodywork for the Beetle, called Vandetta. Can't recall who made them.

I have seen more than three of these in person. There were several variations on the theme and I can't say that I hate them.

Every time someone says they are ugly I back slowly away; I think they are awesome. Oh well.

I remember back in the late 70s.. the local gas station mechanic bought a wrecked Vette and turned it into a 4X4 with a working hatch. It was very cool as he would actually drive it on the beach to go fishing
