i have recently purchased a 1985 cressida wagon , i did not kow the wagons were a solid rear before i bought it, now i'm semi stumped as to what would work out for me to add some sport to this car, it seems ae86 stuff would work as well as solid celica/supra stuff, i did read on my search that the wagons have smaller brakes as well, does anyone have any info on any suspension tech for this thing? struts/springs/sways/brakes?

There was a solid rear axle RWD Cressida.....wagon? CLEARLY I need to do more research in regards to obscure Japanese semi-luxury automobiles.

Go to the Toyota garage when you get there.

DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPE.
people have been going fast w/ sras for a long time; look at american cars. without knowing a ton about cressidas specifically, id have to say that 5 link sounds like a good plan
There has never been a solid axle car that was any good driving in a performance setting:

To the best of my knowledge, all Cressie wagons use a solid rear axle.
How much fabrication can/ do yo want to do? Obviously shocks, springs and swaybars can do a lot to improve the handling. Also look at replacing any bushings in the suspension with either a something like urethane or Delrin if they are available which they probably aren't or just replace them with new stock parts. This will probably do a lot for the handling of a 25 year old car.
I'd talk to Gabe at T3 (TechnoToyTuning) before I started fabbing a bunch of stuff. It's pretty likely that control arms, shocks, and springs interchange with 3rd-gen Celicas.

Yep, and it's incredibly badass.
Cressidas account for two spots on my short list:
1) 1st gen coupe or sedan with a bolt on 7mgte swap. The beater hoon-mobile.
2) Any gen Wagon with a built to the hilt 2jzgte swap. The OMFGBBQWTFWASTHAT-mobile.
i did look through the t3 catalog, i've owned 3 aw11 mr2's and two ae86's ... i'm gettig a 2jzge for $80 btw....
all Toyota Cressida and Crown wagons had a solid rear axle.
They also rock
More production race cars have been built with solid axle rears than any other option.

Well, the catalog's not likely to have anything specific, that's why I suggested actually talking to Gabe.

Add a Cressida wagon to the list of reasons I'll end up divorced. Currently stands at Forester STi clone, DSM, motorcycle, another DSM, Cressida wagon, Hyundai Excel with a DSM swap....

i understand, that way i can get specific parts , i'm probably going to do that.
As i recall the last one i striped the rear end out of was a "T" code 10 bolt rear with 3:73 open diff gears. But that was 10 years ago...

The front brakes from a cressida sedan built after 7/85 will be larger than what you have. They do require 15" wheels or some light grinding of the calipers to fit behind 14" Supra wheels, ymmv trying to stuff them behind other 14" wheels. Just get bigger wheels if you want bigger brakes. You can install a Z32 brake package pretty easily, and any of the various other upgrades that go along with those.
For the rear gabe would know how to hook you up better than I. I am guessing that a celica bushing kit would work back there too, and they use some kind of camaro rear shocks to get some performance type shocks in there rear of those.
I let my cressida go to the insurance company after it got hit last year. I do miss it sometimes, but it's a nightmare to do any suspension mods to the damn things.
yeah i read that camaro shocks work in the rear and aw11 for shorter fronts, i'm unsure of the specific year camaro and i'm kinda iffy about how a shock designed for a car with the motor over the rear axle would do? maybe i'm supposed to use the rear aw11 struts...
oh btw, i did a 2.5 hr trip both ways in it last sunday with no issues on the 187K+ mileage , ( i even went 20mph (sorry!!!)above the speed limit and this car is smooth as butter)
How much are willing to spend? I mean companies like this (http://performanceshock.com/shock-absorbers) can take Koni strut inserts and make them work for your application.
I think i need to diet. My pants are fitting funny.
haha , thanks. i really want to get that 2jzge in there and some diamond racing wheels ....
does anyone know if a 2jzge will bolt up to my auto trans on the 5mge?....
