That skyline ad is emminently sketchy. Someone with a car like that would do with a better description, IMO.
Watch out... the feds seem to be cracking down on Skylines more and more.

Yeah, ever since MotoRex screwed it all up for everyone, it's been discovered that most skylines in the states are getting confiscated. IIRC, most of the legit ones are all r33's.....
I thought the ONLY legit Skylines in the US were R33s (though my understanding is that Infinity G cars are Skylines with different badging), being that the R35 is a "GT-R" and not a "Skyline GT-R".

Probably should get it and turn it into a track only car. Sucks that the gov't has to be involved at all...
BTW what do they do with the cars they confiscate?

My understanding is that everything they confiscate is either auctioned off or destroyed. I'm assuming these were crushed.
I've just had a read of the MotoRex story, at least a couple of bits that you can find online. That's a mess and a half right there...
I agree that the Skyline ad seems off. Might just have to call and see though as curiosity gets the best of me. Would it still be possible to get one under the "Show and Display" rules? I only drive my 911 about 2500 miles a year anyway.

You might be able to do that with "a" Skyline, not terribly likely with THAT Skyline. I don't know that the government would let you posess that which has already been titled for a different purpose.
With the prices of FD RX-7s, that Skyline is reasonable.
I think know about the guy with the skylines, he has a lotta grey market cars tucked away, and IIRC a friend of a friend picked up a 323GTX from him years ago. There was a thread on the new-england vw vortex forum with some photos of some of the guy's stuff.
I read somewhere that all Skylines brought in under Motorex were grandfathered in so to speak, being that the company did the wrong not the owners the owners of the cars were not punished. Cars brought in through other means are apparently fair game for the feds. I still dont get the the appeal of those cars but I do love a Japanese guy tasering clients
Why do the Feds not like skylines? lack of safety? emissions?

because the mere presence of cars not tested or intended for america could destroy the very fabric of what the US is based on, and could destroy the entire worlds economy.
or they're just gov't minions doing what they're told

They're so good they have to be illegal. You can't outlaw weed and then let people drive R32s around!

You could stash it away until it is 25yrs old then it is exempt.

The only legal cars are the motorex R33's as far as federal regulations go. Motorex fudged the paperwork and brought in R32's and R34's as well. These are technically illegal. There are also lots of grey imports brought in by importers to meet local state laws but not in compliance with federal regulations. Any grey market car or even a motorex R32 or R34 is basically subject to confiscation if its ever caught on a public road. It would be difficult or impossible to sell them or get them retitled in other states, and for the asking prices it would be rediculous to try (and end up losing your $25k investment to a crusher). The motorex R33's come up for sale occasionally and are worth a mint as a result.
R32's are now common in canada, which has a 20 year import rule, I think? There are lots of canadian importers that have them on their sites.
In reply to andrave:
15 year rule. Seems the cdn gov't is starting to look more closely at these imports as well - mostly due to the skyline GTR's reputation.
IIRC, Quebec has placed a moratorium on registering "jdm" import cars and BC is looking for loopholes like silly too (headlights aren't DOT approved...)
By cdn standards, the price for the R32 in that craigslist ad is pretty steep (though I haven't read the full ad yet). Most nice R32 GTRs sell for around $15k cdn with lesser examples going as low as $10k
As far as the 15+yr old Japanese imports go, I kinda like the Honda Acty.
edit
Read the ad. no pics and $23500 = dream on.

BMW ad deleted...
I suppose the Scirocco seller would get miffed if you bought the car and told him you were going to turn it into a racer...

That's what I was thinking, too.
