Rather than tinted glass, I would do full sheet metal in Sedan Delivery style.

When I was stationed in Japan, I saw several "sedan deliveries" based on Datsun wagons, and 1 or 2 on Toyotas. In Japan, they did 1 of 2 things: made a panel truck out of the 4 door wagon by using sheetmetal on the rearmost windows (like the blue Nissan Sunny wagon here) or they added a second set of doors to a pickup truck and added a full cap with no windows to that. I've seen 4 door 620 and 720 Nissans in Asia, nearly always in a off-white color.

You might want to try this on a car that's a little easier to find, like a RWD Volvo wagon.

Hey Guys. Sorry to dig up this old thread but I was doing a search on Google and found this cool thread about building a 510 two door wagon.

I had this same dream. I love 510s. I have two 2 door 510s and always wanted a 2 door wagon. About 15+ years ago, I saw a picture of one in an issue of the Dime Quarterly. I told myself, if it ever comes up for sale, I would buy it. Well last year, I bought it.

This one was built right. Superb metal work that looks factory. The guy that built it used doors from a 2 door, which are longer to allow access to the back, along with the 2 door B pillars welded in and the front section of the 2 door quarter panel joined to the rear section of the wagon quarter panel. It does have the custom made to fit Pop out wondows but my plans include changing that to one piece glass tinted dark. I also plan to install a VG30 V6 and other goodies.

I call it, my "3 Door Dime".

If any of you are on the east coast, we have an Annual 510 Meet at Summit Point Raceway in the spring. More info here. www.eastcoastdatsun510.com

When it's something that cool, we really don't care about zombie thread stuff. Did the guy that did the conversion finish the car, or was it still a project when you found it?

Oh fer cryin' out loud. Now I'm hunting Dimes again. I will NEVER get anything finished!

My vision involves having the quarter glass all one piece and tinted dark, the car would be probably Porsche Guards Red with Konig Rewinds or similar.

That looks great - LOVE the SE-R wheels.

Id personally prefer VQ powah over VG, but, to each their own. Really, Id stuff an SR20VET in there and call it a day.

Either way, this is a very cool car, and totally fits in here, so welcome to the forums! Please keep us updated (We have a build thread section for when you dig into her).

The Guy did finish it and then sold it to a kid in HS that kept the car on the road for about 10 years then took it apart to repaint it. He tried to do it himself and was not happy with the results (drips and runs and orange peel) so he parked it and waited til he had money to have it done and it sat for 5 years. Life got in the way so he put it up for sale and luckily, I bought it.

My vision also includes a one piece side glass with dark tint. No Guards Red though. Not sure on color. The Psychedelic acid trip green is growing on me.

Thanks. I am not sure about the SE-R wheels though. They look cartoonish to me. I have a set of 15" 280ZX Turbo snowflake wheels that I think may look better.

I love the VQ too but I already have everything to do VG power, well most everything.

Is that you Mark? How is the 300ZX? Did you sell the Bimmer? My contact info is qwik510@aol.com

Yes, I am doing a carb'd VG. Once I know that I don't need the 2nd dizzy, you can have first dibs on it.

How do I set up to receive notifications when someone replies to this?

I will post a build thread when I get this one going.

Yes, at some point I will be needing it and a flywheel and maybe some other stuff. I still have your number. I will text you.

Thanks,

David

one-piece quarter glass hinged at the front, actuated by honda odyssey or similar power window hardware. that would be excellent.

zombie-thread OK. welcome to the board.

Excellent.

This board has a "Watch Thread" function (it's the heart below the comment box), but I don't know if anything other than PMs actually notify through E-mail.

Thanks. Not too sure about having the long one piece side glass being able to open. Iit would be great for ventilation but I would worry about it sealing properly.

I will look into it and see if it is viable.

I have the rear metal sections from a parts wagon here and a mostly complete parts wagon to use so the profile of the current rear side window framing can be matched. I was thinking of a solid glass installed like on a stretch limo.

I had looked at this website in the past. Seems like they may be able to help me out.

http://limoglass.com

It will be a while before I get to that though.

BTW,

A guy named Wolf in Tx built a panel wagon. He left the smaller wagon front door in place. Made for an easier conversion but I think it would look better if the side section wasn't so long.

Here is the cardomain page.

My plan was to make a single big glass the GRM way: get a one piece glass from one of those Ford 15 passenger vans, make a pattern, tape the crap out of the pattern with duct tape then use a sandblaster to 'cut' the glass.

I think I agree with you about the doors. Yours looks more "proportional". Kind of like a `50s Chevy Nomad. Not to say anything bad about that guy's work, but with the short doors it looks like a pickup with a nice camper top.

Wagons are fairly easy to find. The 2 door might be tough, though (at least for a reasonable price). I'd be best off with a 2 door that's been clobbered from behind, since all I need is the doors and B pillars. Since this would in no way involve keeping a stock drivetrain, neither car would even need to run. That's where a 2WD Pathfinder or 300ZX drivetrain would come in handy. Oh my Gawd, I'm planning and rationalizing it already! Memo to self: finish the Jensenator, the SuperSecretProject and the Street Tracker first.

Tommy Boy has a non-starter project 2 door in his basement that he got from Wayne when he unloaded a few years ago. If you're serious, I'll ask him if he's interested in selling.

Oh, and Wayne has the nicest wagon I've ever seen, but I don't think he'd ever sell it.

Changed out the wheels on the wagon. Never liked the cartoon look of the 17" Sentra SER wheels.

Not sure I will end up with these for good, but the 15" wheels look better to me.
