Need some help from the hive.
My daily is a 2003 Lexus LS430, with 401,000 miles on it. I've put 100k on it, and the lower info screen in the cluster has been burnt out.
I grabbed a junkyard cluster that is functional, but has less miles on it. I would like to send out the new to me cluster and have the mileage updated to what my car currently has.
Does anybody have experience or a recommended vendor for this? I saw some on ebay for around 100 bucks, and I've done a search locally (STL, Missouri) but haven't found anyone who does anything but GM stuff.
Everything else on the cluster is functional, all I need is the mileage corrected.
I assume it is already installed? I am surprised it does not automatically update from the PCM as soon as you hook it up

I temporarily installed it make sure everything works, and it does. But new cluster reads 315k instead of 401k.
My understanding is the PCM does record the (actual) mileage, but doesn't update the cluster, as it's on a seperate memory chip internal to the cluster
I have many thoughts on this but more than I can write from my phone right now. The same thing happens to Prius of '04-'09 (Toyota of same era) and the answer is always a burn out, capacitor. Repair is to resolder in a 69 cent capacitor with a $12 soldering pen.
Later I will post some Prius specific repair videos that should be a guide for the similar Lexus.
The EEPROM can be swapped from the bad cluster to the good one, or copied and cloned.
I am not the guy to do this, I just know it can be done.
The DIY is kind of a pain unless you like geeking out on this stuff.

Suggest you pay the man unless - again - you like geeking out.
Since you do have another working cluster you COULD just desolder the PROM and swap it without the programming mess, thats the McBudget option.
TBH for me I would never mess with it. The car's value wont change for you or anyone else enough to offset the cost of having the work done.
