I actually saw a Llama magazine at the bookstore when I went to pick up my monthly stack of English mags.

No. "944's" would be the correct plural of "944". Numbers and letters are pluralized differently than words. A's, B's, C's; 1's, 2's, 3's; E30's, MX-5's, 944's.

The Chicago Manual of Style says no apostrophe when using a numeral that is used as a noun, so...?

Writers Reference says otherwise. I guess that means that either one could be appropriate. In the case of cars, I'm going to say 's makes sense, because you don't want to confuse more than one car with the "sport" version of that car.

Probably. In all the years at college, I had to flip through a number of styles with their own, different rules and professors loved to argue about which one was write. I generally stuck with what the AP said was kosher, but I was in the journalism dept.

Hah, I didn't even catch that until you did. I'll use the fact that I ran all day from one Thanksgiving dinner to the next as an excuse. Yes, that's the one I'll use.

Right! We should be trading obscenities by now.

Instead, this thread has deteriorated into a civilized discussion regarding grammar and usage.

We clearly don't know how to use the interweb properly.

Dam it Now I need to wet vac my keyboard. Turkey bits with stuffing and gravy from my dag-wood are now quite evenly distributed all over my computer deck.

Note to self: Put the sandwich down and finish chewing and swallow before reading GRM threads.. . . . . Unless You are reading in the "other room". Then all the above is void!

Why is it GRM forums always get read when I am eating and the magazine gets read when I am .. . .. . recycling? Just an observation. I am not "reading" anything more in to this.

AMEN! I appreciate differences in style, but language is an art, not a set of natural laws. Tell that to my language teachers, though. A language professor KNOWS which style is correct - the one to which they subscribe, and no other.

Flagged for removal. You're welcome!

But since I can't resist evil troll magic:

944's enter LeMons. 944's don't do well at LeMons. Jay Lamm says "944's don't do well at LeMons."

I think the 1st gen. CRX is the greates thing since sliced bread, and ours is fast as berkeley at LeMons...when it's running. We've completely melted rotors, been through 4 motors, and caught on fire with 7 minutes left in the race. Doesn't mean all 1st gen. CRX's are E36 M3.

Now go park your 944 under the bridge and get back to collecting your trolltax.

I don't know what's more gross: that, or the fact that a turkey and stuffing sandwich sounds pretty good to me right about now.

Go ahead, hate me. I don't get the worship of this underpowered, overcomplicated car. I don't like the LeMons races either. I probably wouldn't like Jay Lamm if I met him. In fact, I hate everything. So yell at me in all caps. I can take it.
