I have successfully rebuilt one. Mark the wheels so you can get them back in the same place in relation to each other and the shaft. That will help keep the balance close. Other than that, they are pretty simple.

Should I just use a marker for this? And in the same place you mean how the are when it comes apart?

Ive rebuilt a few. Just call up your local turbo rebuild shop, most screw with mainly diesel stuff but have them balance the wheels when your done, really cheap insurance (35 is what I payed, usually under 50 to just balance). The rebuilding process itself is super easy, if your worried im sure theres a youtube video on your turbo. Ive got over 10k miles on a self rebuild, turboshop balanced turbo and its still perfect

Sounds like a plan.

There is a guy on DSM tuners under the name of JustinMX that rebuilds turbos very cheap. I believe I saw quoted $120? He has been doing it a long time for the mitsubishi guys and has a good reputation of quality and performance.

There's a guy in the local time attack group that has rebuilt his own TD04. He did the "mark everything and eyeball it" method of balancing and it seems to have served him fairly well.

I'd probably be too nervous to do it, myself, and would take the rebuilt turbo to a proper turbo shop for rebalancing. Our formerly-cool local one now charges a boatload now though.

Just one of many. Looks like it's a pretty straightforward job.
