Interesting, but what will that be, about the 657th version of that same car?

Who owns a version?  Can you tell the difference between 717 and 797 or 825 horsepower?

Heck, I'd just like to see one at a roadcourse, any roadcourse, seriously.

ANY.

Looks like they keep loaning them to people for One Lap.

I think for 2021 Dodge should include a certified requirement for ALL buyers that if you are driving a Challenger and see any other kind "sporty" car or import hatchback (say, a GTI), you are legally required to speed up to catch it, and then pass it at high speed in the right lane while making sure to downshift. Then resume normal driving once you're about 1/4 mile ahead.

I say it should be an actual requirement, because at least 10% of Challenger owners *don't* already do this :D

Funniest was the guy in his SRT Challenger who did the 50' burnout from a stoplight as I'm sitting there in my Porsche 924. Yeah buddy, you could have smoked me in your wife's Honda Odyssey. Or perhaps your son's Power Wheels. Congrats on your accomplishment :D

You know, I'd love to see someone rally a Hellcat. Yeah, it would make a E36 M3ty rally car & would pelt spectators with gravel up to a mile away, but the pure absurdity of it would be pretty berkeleying awesome.

In a way, it's a slightly less expensive (maybe) way of using a AMG Mercedes to do One Lap.  You're not likely to win any of the track sessions, but at least the transits between them will be comfortable.

In reply to Pete Gossett (Forum Supporter) :

It probably wouldn't even need to be a Hellcat.  A standard R/T would probably have plenty of power to send gravel into low orbit.

You find somebody to fund it and I'll stop working on the BRZ immediately to make that happen.  Will need to de-stroke or sleeve the engine to meet the maximum displacement rules but whatever.  Or remove the supercharger. cheeky

My only gripe is that they squandered the T/A trim on a stickers package. A stripped down road-racer is what the T/A should have been to begin with.

I don't remember if I took a picture or not, but there was one running in a support race at the Trans Am race at Mid Ohio last year.

A regular Challenger R/T came out to a rallycross I was at a couple years ago. Among the RWD cars my recollection is that it finished DFL and looked even slower than it was.

Power cars don't really "shoot gravel" any further than a Miata would, since pretty much anything can spin tires at 7k rpms on gravel, so they're all getting the same wheel velocity. I could fire gravel a mile in the e30 if it didn't have big mudflaps on it. How far and high you can fling gravel has mostly to do with how much of the car's rear overhang takes a beating or not (Nonack's old Mustang had giant tires and almost no overhang and no mudflaps, so it shot gravel a long way. Nick D's M3 with just as much power hardly shoots gravel anywhere due to its flaps and relatively low rear overhang height.

That's my scientific take :)

Driving today I was behind a Charger "Ralleye" edition. So you should probably save yourself the trouble and just pick one of those up since it's already made for it ;)

I still dream of running a '69 Charger in rallycross.  A General Lee replica, of course... because I'm a child of the 70's. I'm sure I'd finish DFL, but I'm pretty sure I'd have a grin on my face that would last for months. cheeky

Exactly.  If I happened to stumble across a 68-70 Charger in running condition for $10K or less, I'd be in trouble... maybe in a couple of years when some of the other projects look a little more under control.  Fortunately (I guess...), the only cars I seem to see in that price range are rusted out bare shells with a VIN plate. Usually without a title...

General Mayhem was a gutted, but rust-free shell with no drivetrain, no interior, no glass, no brakes and no front sheetmetal that I seem to recall David Freiburger traded a set of used cylinder heads for. I think my favorite part is they get it assembled and he is planning on heading to the DMV to get it registered for the first time in decades and says something along the lines of "Ya know, this car might be stolen. We might have just done a ton of work for someone else"

People who have experienced John Lane's Fire Breathing Monster (Volvo 260 with all the boost) would suggest otherwise.  I forget how much power it had but IIRC it was quite a bit over 400.

I do remember the bit where he said he had to use all-terrain tires because rally tires simply melted smiley  Completely ridiculous overkill car and I wish I'd had the $20k when he put it up for sale.

I know the story.  My vague point is either those were some seriously special heads he traded, or the car was stolen in one way or another.  I have seen rusted out shells with literally nothing but a VIN number with 5 digit asking prices.  It's rare to see a driver car in rough condition for under $20K.  But since I have zero room or time for another project, I don't look for one very often lest I do find one I feel is worth the asking price.

Granted, if one really wanted to go nuts with it as a rallycross or even a stage car, then a rusted out hulk would be all one would need as you would probably end up fabbing everything from a bare firewall to the point where the car would be closer to a trophy truck than a Charger.  Of course, what rules it would fall under is a different matter.

If that's a special shell with a VIN plate to confirm it, I can see 5 digit asking prices. Think Hemi or R/T. A gutted shell of a 318, (hopefully) not as much.
