'No politics' means NO POLITICS. I learned that in the meme thread.
I personally don't have an issue with mild political discussion, but some people apparently can't get their heads around the concept of mild. So we wind up with a zero tolerance policy, for the same reasons zero tolerance policies always get implemented, and with the same results.

Hmmmm, we all love and drive cars and trucks. We have to pay for them, pay to register and insure them, pay to maintain the roads we drive on, pay gas tax, pay tolls, pay tax on gas, drive the mandated speed limit, pay any speeding tickets, have to abide by all kinds of government regulations on sound, CO, height etc...
Seems politics and cars are inextricably linked to me.
I guess I'll have to call GRM and find out where my November subscription purchase is. I can't get into trouble flipping pages.
I was thinking this was going to be about threadlocker or lock nuts or something.
You could try this thread if you are that upset about it...
In reply to ebonyandivory :
I always thought that "I'd rather have rusty nuts" was said by nobody ever...Turns out I was wrong.
"I'd rather have rusty nuts" - Me, just now.
Ahhhh, much better.

Thanks for that. I'm not really upset. Just thought it was a little premature is all
So can we talk here about an 80-mile range Leaf going 230 and the reporters not listing any issues? At a minimum it would have had to stop 4 times; did it do this all in one day, or in spurts over weeks? They had to have problems- what were they? How much more electricity did it run through powering everything?
In reply to ebonyandivory :
Especially since you two sounded like you'd agree with each other if you stayed a little more level.

I love GRM, I love frequenting these boards; but, the last subscription I maybe only got half of the issues. I just stick with the digital copies and chalk it up to the mailman stealing a copy for himself.

I do as well but I also enjoy disconnecting from screens to read every now and then
I've noticed the political climate within the last few years has gone mad. I blame the media. They intentionally are getting you guys worked up. I spend a lot of time in a lot of different households every day. 8 different families I see every day. Thats forty households a week. Wanna guess what's on EVERY. SINGLE. TV. EVER? CNN, msnbc, c span, etc. and every person is glued to the tv. I can hardly get people away from the politics so they can focus on what I am there to do! they get all worked up about what the news man said and then That frustration turns into heat for me.
folks, right now, in American history, truer words have not been spoken: TURN OFF THE POLITICS.
Hell, watch Sesame Street if you have to. The political is not good for you, it's toxic to your health, and relationships with others.
and the whole political game from the media is designed to be a soap opera. Whether it's "true" or "not true" is irrelevant. The media channels are the only ones winning right now, and we are all losing. Because it turns us against each other.
how do I know this? Because I don't watch politics. At all. I'm a neutral party here. An outside observer, offering a glimpse into the world you've been sucked into.

NO! What some people fail to realize is that the electric car is itself a highly political idea, with passionate proponents on one side, and fight-to-the-death opponents on the other. Politics is life, and essentially all interaction between people beyond the vapid "Hi, howyadoin?" is political to some extent.
Respecting opposing viewpoints is the single most important thing to consider here.
Rust- nature's Locktite.
The problem here is not that people don't understand the difference between cars and politics. The problem is that a few of them think they're smarter than the "others", and feel the need to drive the point home at every turn.
Are we discussing the difference between BLUE loctite and RED loctite?
Loctite was asked to make a Purple formulation, but it was vetoed by the Red group and protested by the Blue users.

And in a twist of what you you just said, the reality is people need to realize that they are dumber than everyone else around them. This is known as humility, a human aspect that is sorely lacking today. If we treat others as if they are superior to ourselves, then everyone will get along and be wildly impressed with each other.

I enjoy the passive agressive Linkedin post that people generate to let everyone else know in their contacts that they are doing better than you.
I'm just thinking that if a thread gets shut down at the first sign of something that can be considered "political", we might have a lot of meaningful discussions locked out.
If that's how the powers-that-be (is that political?) decide to move forward then I guess we're all free to leave if we don't like it.
Personally, I like that I dont have to worry about talking politics here. I like that I dont have to worry about whether someone is going to feel antagonistic because I said their favored choice for *insert position here* was a fetid piece of swamp garbage who shouldn't be in charge of a TV remote. I like that I'm not going to disregard someone's advice because they said my choice for *insert job here* was worse than a brain damaged monkey at choosing which hole in their body food goes in.
Because that's what happens with political discussions.
No one knows how to have a conversation about them, so they all devolve into something that tears a group apart.
In reply to Mr_Asa :
If "NO POLITICS" means not discussing the current Presidential debates and things directly related to Senators, Congressmen/women and elections etc. I'm in full agreement. Not the place for such things. If it means not debating a new law that may affect our hobby and current laws that do, I'm a little fuzzy on that.
Like I said, I'll obviously take what I'm given.
In reply to Mr_Asa :
That's because people have lost the art of conversing without emotional investment. Take yourself out of the situation and analyze neutrally. Then invest emotion into the ideal that emerges.
