You’ve rented your last Kia Soul from an airport Hertz. That’s because DriveShare by Hagerty allows you to borrow vintage and exotic vehicles from fellow enthusiasts around the world.
Have an incredible collectible cooped up in the garage? Why not spread the love by sharing it with thoroughly scree…

I really like this, but fear for it. One moron will ruin it. Imagine... “ hey that’s that car that I really like, the one that there’s very few of in the world, yoink!”
or “yeah, I got held at gun point while the thief took this car I borrowed” (hint- it’s somewhere in my possession)
and then the generalized 18-20yr old “man, I was uhh.. distracted, and this pedestrian walked in front of me” (texting whilst driving).
Granted, you get reimbursed. But money doesn’t cover memories, long nights in the garage, or stories.

Your story doesn't take in to account of the collector cars that were collected off of an auction block.

The first place my mind goes is my failed attempts to find a place specializing in Ferrari 308 rentals in Hawaii... You'd think there'd be a niche.

Soo cool.
There are some really nice ones here in chicago (albiet only about 10 so far) that go for $300 or so per day. Really neat idea.

There seems to a fair number of these but I wonder what if any of them will actually be successful
IE turo
The most rented rental in my area on turo? a standard cab longbed 2wd pickup for moving stuff
In reply to RossD :
That is true. There will be the guy that has a collection, barely drives them (since he’s not attached). Does the owner get to chose the driver?
also, what are the rules for the renter? Do you have to park in the back 40 of a parking lot? What if it is a convertible? And it rains.
I love this idea, and I’ll continue to look to see what interesting cars are in my area. That said, I don’t understand why the rates are way, way higher than similar cars at other rideshare services like Turo.
In reply to Trackmouse :
If it's actually modeled exactly like Airbnb, yes the owner gets to give the driver a yea or nay.
Also, Airbnb lets owners rate renters for how well they stuck to the rules, behaved, cleaned etc. I assume a similar rating system will be used here (I haven't tried renting anything through RideShare yet). It seems like it would be even more important with cars.
Also, I just did a local search with DriveShare.
I could rent a military Humvee for $385 per day.

I can't find a way to change the distance, but putting in my Dayton zip code this was the only option, down in Cincinnati:
So much for that Lamborghini dream.

Yeah Atlanta is slim pickins as well... a couple of Porsches and Corvettes for an ambitious $$$$ per day. Could we arrange a GRM equivalent version of this? There are many everyman GRM style rides I have never encountered in the wild that I would like to experience, if only for 15 min at a time... AW11 or SW20 MR2, 944, B-series Honda Civic, Panther/Marauder, AE86, FR-S, Mini, Fiesta, Starion, Eclipse, 240sx, 300zx, etc. I would throw my E30 in the mix...
In Portland, there was a GTR for 550$ a day. Now, when I rented the r35 in Vegas, it was 550$, and that was only 6 laps.
so my thought here- rent r35 for all day, take it to the track, do as many laps as I want, and bring it back.(hopefully, unscathed!)

Nothing available in my area but a Tesla.....blah.
So I've been thinking about this all evening -- the question "If I had a collector car would I actually rent it out?" became instead "What inexpensive collector car might I buy both to drive and to rent out?" Intriguing.
That's pretty dang cool. The prices seem high, but then again .. I wouldn't rent out my truck for cheap, that's for sure.
@Trackmouse: I kind of doubt you're allowed to track the vehicles you rent. I'd check up on the agreement before putting yourself at risk for a lawsuit.

Maybe this is the platform to use. Hagerty understands our world well and I spotted at least one autocross-prepped Miata on RideShare. And someone commented on a Facebook post we made about it saying his autocross Mustang was on Rideshare and renters are welcome to take it to events.
Prices do seem to be all over the place. But if my ECON 101 class taught me anything, prices should become more uniform as more cars are added and rented out.

If you are renting your car you have to assume it is going to be driven hard. If I rented something fun, I'm going to hammer on it to find out how fun it is. Risk/reward is a question you have to ask yourself.

Oh for sure. That was sheer lunacy talking. I wouldn’t dream of taking another persons car in a track without permission.
