Well that was fun. We purchased an 88 Saab SPG in Bryson City NC this weekend. Did the river, B/B and touristy stuff. There is absolutely no way that we were leaving without doing the Dragon. My Wife was behind in the Mazda 5. Witin a few corners we came on a guy that offed a sport bike into the woods. He was lucky as there have been 11 deaths just on the Tenn side since May! Lots of Harleys. Lots of Miatas. Some enforcement. Actually nice guys. The road itself was absolutely dreamy. What a joy. And what better way to celebrate our first drive in the SPG! Oh and the car did so well. Even doing 85 mph on the way home...

I have friends that went for the Miata gathering this weekend. I've been twice, both times in the old xB. Which with much suspension/tires made it fun, I'm really looking forward to the next Abarth meet there. Either this fall or in the Spring. (Or both.)

If you're going to do the Dragon, keep going and drive the Cherohala Skyway too! Honestly, I liked it even better since there was very little traffic compared to the Dragon. Lots of incredible roads around there.
Coming from North Carolina going into TN, you have to pick one or the other since the turn-off for the Cherohala comes about five miles before the Dragon proper. The only downside to choosing the Cherohala comes if you get a speeding ticket, since they are about three times more expensive from a Park Ranger than the regular LEO's that cover 129.
My 88 SPG is one of my favorite cars to drive through there, plenty responsive and agile, without much danger at all of leaving the road backwards. The slight lag means you can roll on the power mid corner and be enjoying full boost by the time you're unwinding the wheel.

Awesome. I've had a great time down there in one of my 900s as well:
We drove from Bryson City so got to enjoy that part as well. Stayed away from the Cherahola as I did not want to tempt the Park Police I have THE worlds best 900 on the Dragon picture from Killboy but do not know how to post. Can you assist Powar?
