At that point, you're still getting a v6 car that gets nominally worse fuel economy, weighs slightly more, has insignificantly less power, handles better, rides better, has a nicer exterior, has a nicer interior, and will be more expensive and valuable than the 2011-2014 v6 cars.
FTFY. Don't forget that most of the EPA fuel exonomy rating drop for the 15+ cars is due to the shorter gearing vs the standard geared 11-14 cars, which correspondingly improves acceleration. Well, that and marketeering probably pushing to err on the low side with the fuel economy (and power) ratings to make the EB more attractive of an upgrade on paper, even if naturally aspirated cars typically perform better relative to their EPA ratings than turbo cars...Which likely negates much of the advertised EB advantage anyways.
They may be small differences, but the new car performs worse in most measurable categories compared to the last v6 Mustang. Ford absolutely and intentionally made the v6 15 mustangs worse than the v6 11-14 Mustangs (you nailed the reason why in the second part of your post).
The exterior of the new car is totally subjective. According to comment sections on the internet, there are plenty of people that prefer the old design over the new one.
The new interiors are supposed to be lovely, but the 15 v6 cars are the cheapest of the cheap, base models now. Older v6 models could get upgraded interiors, but according to Ford's configurator the 15 v6 isn't even available with leather seats, or most of the things that make the new interiors so much "nicer". I'd take an 11-14 v6 car with Premium interior any day of the week as a place to spend my time.
The IRS is a nice upgrade for sure, and overdue, but for a daily driver, are you really going to notice the difference in handling vs the previous solid axle? Not likely. I'd totally buy the idea that it improves ride though.
Resale value? Do you really think the newer v6 car will be more valuable when it's only available in rental car configurations, and it's statistically worse than the previous gen? I doubt it.
So, you'd intentionally pay more for the car that is heavier, less powerful, gets worse fuel economy, and an interior that isn't as well equipped? What's the motivation? For me the tradeoff of newer styling and a small improvement in ride quality doesn't justify all of the other areas where the 15 v6 is deficient vs the previous gen, especially when cost is considered.
I'll just chime in to say I were in the market for a Mustang I'd be looking for a previous gen. V6 with the performance package/6 speed. (edit: and I'd be hoping to find a blue one ) You all have explained the reasons already.
...that is if a 2015 GT wasn't an option.

I was thinking now the 2015 v6s might be an easy buy in two-three years or so. Wait until when everyone is still happy with their performance and mpg on the ecoboost, but not enough time to pass when they all start needing a turbo rebuild. When the V6 with the steeper gears and LSD is on the lot getting passed over.
At that point, you're still getting a v6 car that gets nominally worse fuel economy, weighs slightly more, has insignificantly less power, handles better, rides better, has a nicer exterior, has a nicer interior, and will be more expensive and valuable than the 2011-2014 v6 cars.

Of course people also like to conveniently forget that the 11-14 Performance Package gearing is even shorter yet, and will have that much more of a fuel economy hit vs the EPA ratings that are based on the tallest geared variants...Not that most people getting the Performance Package are likely to notice or care.
In my humble opinion, the 3.7L V6 is still underappreciated in the Mustang...Even by Ford now. I too would actually prefer a V6 over a V8, in either (11-14 or 15+) body style, for how I would use the car...And in the 15+ cats would also have a hard time not picking the V6 over the EB, pretty much for the sound alone
I see your point on almost all of that except the valuable part. The V6 will always be the bottom of S550 food chain. But with the S197 cars, the 11-14 V6 was such a total departure from peoples ideas of a 'base' Pony car it's already a folk hero. Don't forget the V6 with performance pack was faster than the latest Evo and STi's in C&D lightning lap shoot out thing (11 V6 Mustang 3:12.5, Evo MR 3:13.3 and 11 Sti 3:13.8) That's 0.8 and 1.3 secs respectively, nothing to be sneezed at with better looks and more affordable to run as well. I wouldn't hesitate to own another 11-14 V6 with manual this time. Doesn't even need to be the Performance package.

In reply to Adrian_Thompson: I agree, it really is a lot of car for the money. I'm seeing these at 13-16k for sale for the 2011-12 years, their Camaro counterparts tend to run 2k-4k more depending on equipment.
Yes looks are totally subjective, and yes Ford appears to be successfully playing the mag-racer game against the 15+ V6, but (Performance Pack excluded) I have seen nothing to indicate that the 11-14 V6 actually performs any better in the real world than the 15+ V6. Don't forget that the Premium interior that people complain about not getting also kills that precious weight advantage being touted. So yes, it's one or the other, but not both.
I also say more valuable in the sense that the newer body style, lower age, and lower mileage are typically more important to used car pricing than optional equipment like leather interior.
hey look i found a v6 pony package, I wish you could get the performance package without the lame rims. Something about the dinky 17" silver wheels on the 2015 are awesome.
