Anyone else sort of with me? (v8 out of the picture because of price). But I'm finding the v6 2015 mustang to be fairly compelling over the ecoboost. I feel ecoboost is great, but the perfect car for it is the Fiesta ST. V6 gives decent horse power out the door, seems way more reliable than the ecoboost, doesn't eat premium gas, and gives power through the whole band. I think when they start hitting 50k miles I might look into getting one
If you really want to play with the motor, the ecoboost is a great path to spending money and trying to make V8 levels of power while hoping it doesn't explode. That sort of thing is fun. The V6 is more of a set it and forget it motor.

The Fiesta ST doesn't come with that engine, the Focus ST does
mazdeuce - From an old fart perspective, the V6 and Ecoboost already DO make V8 levels of power...

If I wanted a 300hp Mustang, I'd either get the Ecoboost, or go back a generation for the last v6 Stang. Seems like Ford actively tried to make the v6 less appealing with the 2015 redesign. It's got less power now than in previous years, and fuel economy may have dropped as well if my memory can be trusted. They went to great lengths so that it wouldn't encroach on the numbers of the Ecoboost marketing darling.
Couple that with the added weight of the new car, and a 14 v6 model is probably a much better performing car out of the box than the new 15 v6. I'm not sure if you can get a 15 v6 with the performance pack, or anything more than rental car options either, unlike previous years. I'd guess that the older v6 cars are probably significantly cheaper too.
My father and I got to wring out a new V6 and a lightly modded Ecoboost Mustang with the performance pack. I'd much rather have the Ecoboost, but both were a hoot.
My father has an '03 Mach 1, and was amazed that the four and six cylinder variants make similar power to his old V8.

The Focus ST doesn't come with that engine, the Focus RS does.

I'm pretty sure you're right. I remember watching something on the 2015 Mustang where they claimed the V6 was their "bread and butter" model and wouldn't get a performance pack, the Ecoboost would appeal to guys who didn't want a V8, and the GT folks wouldn't consider anything other than a V8 anyway.

Touche' I was thinking the ST had the 2.3l as well. Must have got it mixed up with the Mazdaspeed3.
Certainly neither one is the Fiesta ST engine, which is a 1.6, and this sticks in my mind because Ford has an engine management solution for swapping the big Ecoboost into other cars, but not the 1.6, and the 1.6 is the one I'd want to swap in to something...
I rented a 2015 'Stang Ecoboost during a vacation. It was fast, but numb feeling and sounded funny. I didn't like it. IMO, a Mustang has to have the V8.
The ecoboost has more power everywhere in the rev range over the V6 if I'm not mistaken. I love sleepers; so quiet turbo car for me.

I'm with you, the 3.7 v6 is a great motor. Especially when the 11-14 cars were new, there wasn't more performance per dollar to be had anywhere. I wish someone would make a non-centrifugal supercharger kit for it.
How much power are people getting out of the 4?
No track pack on the current v6, but a lot of that is stuff that's getting replaced eventually anyway imo.
I get it. I drove the ecoboost and boy it was fast. It didn't have the muscle car feel, but it was fast. Fast wins in my book though...
Ah. Should probably say too. This would be a appliance purchase, not a cross car. Just get me to point a to point b with a little but of rwd enjoyment within the speed limit. Better looking v6 accord imo.

I've seen stock block 2.3 ecoboost mustangs encroaching on 500whp and wasn't even looking for them
Just to bring this one back up, because the '11-'14 V6 Mustang keeps swimming around in my head for a daily driver I can put stupid amounts of miles on and still have fun. For me, it'd be a Premium package with the Performance Pack. IIRC, that gets you the GTs' suspension.
Anyone driven these at length? How are the MPGs? It's a big deal for me, hence some the consideration over the GT. Yeah, I know the biggest reason not to get a V6 is because the V8 exists, but 305hp is no slouch. Plus, a significantly lower buy in price than a GT and better MPG make it a strong consideration. Seems properly equipped, a V6 manual could be a ton of fun.
The 05 body style with a six and five speed is stuck in my head as well. Looking forward to seeing what you learn.
And a 300 horse six is just insane in my worls.
Yea.. I started looking at 2013-2014 v6 stangs too. Actually cross shopping it with a Infiniti g37, which is odd but both RWD and v6.
Seems like infiniti has more pluses; japanese reliability and engineering, nicer interior. Downsides would be I could only afford a car 7 year old car with about 60k miles.
Mustang v6 pluses is cheap american car. But that's also it's downside, cheap.. not sure about reliability. I could buy a newer mustang with less miles. I don't care about not having a v6 but it might get tiresome when people always ask you if it's a v8.
In reply to Coldsnap:
To me, the reliability will have a LOT more to do with age than with original manufacture. Also, have you ever been in a G? I didn't think their interior was all that nice. The last one I was in was not aging well.
The G35/37 is a really nice car, my wife had a G35 sedan at one point. Interior wasn't bad, but the reason it's not on my list is fuel mileage. It averaged 17-19mpg. That won't cut it for me. Plus, as Coldsnap mentioned, you can pick up a '12-'14 V6 Mustang nicely equipped for cheap.
AH, yea. The infinity does average less.
So what are the package options on the '12-'14 V6 Mustang. I see regular and premium. I guess some had options for steeper gears too?

Drive both. Get the one you like. They both seems like they could be nice cars to commute in.

The only perf option on a 2015 v6 is a 3:55 rear with lsd. It's a compelling choice compared to ecoboost since low price and I believe the performance numbers are comparable.

You could get the 11-14 v6 with the brembo/ performance pack- just like the GTs.
You can ID them when searching used cars by checking for the strut tower brace

'05-10 only had a pedestrian 200ish 4.0L sohc v6.....they suck terribly and should never be bought with anything resembling real money.
Coldsnap, what you're looking for is the performance pack on the 2011-2014 v6 cars, it'll have bigger wheels, GT Brakes, GT suspension, and a 3.55 LSD stick out back. It is an option on either base or premium cars.

Cue the video of one on stock-width wheels holding off a modded FRSBRS for 20 minutes on a road course. But taken as an overall car i could understand the sentiment.
