So I know based on the searches I have done online EBC has had a spotted history for quality but it sounds as if once they improved their compound formula in the mid '00s they have been consistent.

I'm thinking about the EBC Yellow Stuff pads for weekend driving, autocross, and some infrequent track use.

The reason I’m asking this and not just going ahead and ordering a specific set for street/autoX and track is because I doubt that at least for the next year or two I will get out and do more than 1 or 2 instructor session HPDE events in a summer. I’ll probably go out to Gingerman Raceway in West Michigan and try out an event or two this summer, and that’s about it. The one event I was thinking for registering for advertised eight 20 min. sessions for the weekend. I don’t see myself really focusing on HPDE events until I get comfortable with doing it.

Anyone experiences with them?

Did you ever experience fade on the track or glazing?

How many HDPE Events could you usually get out of them?

The car I'll be putting them on is an 84 VW GTI (est. 2,100 lb curb weight) with a stock motor (est. 90 hp), upgraded 10.1 rotors, SS braided lines, and Direzza ZII Star Spec tires.

With the stock pads on my Esprit (RIP), I could get about 3 stops from 100MPH. That 4th "stop" was more of a "OK, I'm standing on the brake pedal and the car is not slowing down. At all." I put the EBC Yellowstuff on and never had it fade, ever, including 2 track days.

I got EBC yellows for the exact same purpose...haven't had a chance to test them yet though.

Glad to hear that. Have you looked at how much pad you used so far?

Honestly if I could get like 3 events and a whole summer out of them with maybe 2,000-3,000 miles on it and 7 or 8 Autocrosses I'd be thrilled. If I got to the point where I was doing more HPDEs I would buy a dedicated set of rotors and race pads.

I just want something to "get my feet wet with" now.

I'd look at Carbotech. I've run most everything over the past 10 years and tried Carbotech on the race car last season, and Performance Friction didn't make a pad for the specific Wilwood calipers I'd switched to. Carbotech's tech support guy was very knowledgeable and took time to really work with me about what compound(s) to use. The performance is exceptional, but what blows me away is the pad life. I'm on the first set of pads still after 8 weekends, 3 of which included practice days, and they still have about 65% left.

So I'd guess you could use a less aggressive pad like the AX6 and get long, long life.

I have 5 sets of Hawk DTC60's on the shelf ... others win on contingency and then sell the rights to the pads.. plus there were a couple of discounts that made purchases the only thing to do ... but I DO love the carbotechs ... assuming I can get back on track, I have enough pads to last the season ...but I'll be getting carbotecs when I use up the Hawks

I still had over half the pads left, maybe 2/3rds, after 2 track days and, I dunno, 5-10K miles when the car went to Lotus Heaven.

The only down side is that the first stop of the day takes more foot pedal. After that stop, they're great.

I also run the same pads when I drive it on the street ...back and forth for autoX's .. I have to remember to re-bed them occasionally ...I can hear the "medal on medal" sound which reminds me to re-bed them ...

Nice. That sounds like it would work out fine for me then.

I need to give them a call and see what their advice is too. If I do end up with a dedicated track setup I could see using XP8s or XP10s for track. I'm kind hoping I can find a hybrid pad that would do what I need now though.
