Would this be an easy swap since all things would be Subaru? Would the axles match the trans? What drive shaft would be required, since the trans would most likely be longer - custom? I will go Mega squirt for the ecu so that's covered.

6 speed is fine, might need a new rear diff. I think you just get a drive shaft from an automatic car. The twin turbo doesn't fit in left hand drive vehicles I believe, but confirm that.
Actually yeah, it should be fairly straight forward.
For the 6 speed you will need a lot of things from the STi.
It is often easier to just start with one as a donor.

^^^^^^ This.
Apparently the second turbo is exactly where the steering shaft goes. Two turbos or steering - pick one.

Turbos. Duh. You can steer with boost, but can't make boost with steering.

learn to steer with the pedals and the e-brake?
Good points - no more tt. Will also need to do some ratio research. I think I'll do the motor first then the trans later. It has a new 5 speed any way. Even the 2.2 is still going strong though - 208k but need some more oomph. There are rumors that certain RS n/a ecu's work fine with some turbo motors. Subscribed to rs25.com - let the research phase of the project begin.
I've owned a twin turbo Legacy - the engine characteristics take a little getting used to as there is a 'valley' between the first turbo running out of breath and the second one kicking in. You get used to it (and there are things you can do to fix this issue) but for that reason alone I'm not sure I'd want to use it as a swap candidate.
