So now that the k20 gti is running I had my first autocross. One thing that is apparent is that I need to have power steering. 190whp, and a very agressive differential means that I have a hard time keeping the wheel pointed the the direction I desire.

I wanted to discuss implementing a electric power steering pump on a switch. Everyone states going with the mr2 unit, however prices on ebay for used units are 350 bucks!

Mazda 3 pumps seem much more reasonable at around 150 or so, then there are the european overseas.

What does GRM recommend, anyone have any experience that I can draw from?

Just to update, ordered a electric steering column vs. going electrohydraulic. This seems to be the ticket nowadays and im hoping i dont loose all feel in the steering.

Last weekend I had a autocross and cracked/broke 2 of the 3 spokes on my steering wheel. It completely tacoed on the last run.

Keep us updated! There are a lot of newer vehicles with electro hydraulic power steering. The problem with most newer setups is they require CAN input from other modules you wouldn't swap over, or need like VSS and steering angle sensors.

I have an 2nd gen MR2 pump on my civic, I think I paid $150 or so on eBay about 4 years ago. It's nice because it doesn't require any inputs and defaults to full assist. Noisy though.

Good, was going to recommend direct electric assist. Newer units have a good steering feel, and this way you don't have to scrounge around for an old simple electric pump or do hardcore hacking to trick a new electric pump into working.

I popped in to say I use a Subie XT-6 electro hydraulic setup in my BMW endurance race car and it works well but I see you have gone another way so... nevermind.
