Has anyone done this? I am really tempted by the price of bad motor rollers and the price of decent replacement engines. Doing a 3.2 into early car is really tempting. Any words of encouragement or better yet, discouragement?

No, his car needs a trans swap, not an engine swap.
How about Audi 2.7 V6 turbo? http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=47&t=1571615
LS swap. Guy I know locally has a Boxster in his shop with IMS bearing failure. Nobody will touch it and a new Porsche engine costs way more than a crate LS3. http://www.renegadehybrids.com/ is the place you wanna check out.
Actually already looked at the Renegade stuff too but it involves lots of cutting. I dont really want to have too much HP(and yes, I know that you can never have enough HP or ammo)so the 50hp boost seemed to be adequate. Not sure about cost savings since 3.2's are available under $3500 on ebay. It is plug and play compared to swapping a 3.6 from 996/7. Finding a Boxster with bad motor isnt hard; finding one where the owner isnt upside down in his math is much harder.
