Ok so the muffler on my '96 Civic has completely rusted out. So I am probably going 2 replace it with a performance exhaust. But I have a couple problems. Number one. No one sells headers for a DX right? So that means I have get a header for a VTEC model which means replacing the stock catalytic converter with different one. But what do I do about the O2 sensors? I also don't want the typical Civic fart cannon mufflers so are there any ideas on less daft looking and sounding mufflers? Or should I just get a custom cat-back exhaust put on?

I'd probably just go custom. Any decent muffler shop can weld up something from a generic muffler and tubing for a couple of hundred bucks.

Like billy3esq said.

Have a shop fabricate a "cat back system". That way you don't have to worry about screwing around with a header, the cataytic converter or O2 sensor.

Is the engine modded in any other sense? It seems to me that if the engine isn't modded and you're not doing anything right away, a stock system is the way to go. You can get stock replacements for chump change and you're not going to see any significant gains with a stock DX engine and aftermarket exhaust, IMO.

I thought a DX header/cat combo was the same as the EX header/cat combo. Don't quote me on that, though.

As for a muffler, this is odd and neat:

In terms of Si's the 99-00 sedan and coupe take the same exhaust (my 99 Si's Mugen Twin Loop is technically for a 4-door). I'm also almost positive the 96 would be the same as that 99-00.

Just a thought...

BTW--the 5hp you'll get from a header is basically pointless.

I'd sooner put that money toward Koni yellows (along w/ some good springs), where you'll feel a massive difference, as opposed to "yeah, I guess it feels a little faster...
