Ricciardo is the real deal. Always smiling too....I like that. McLaren seems to be falling off somewhat.

Wait, you're blaming a cable provider for broadcasting a network feed of a live event across the world? If you paid attention you could have watched the NBCSN re-play on Sunday afternoon.
You would have seen a race where the Mercs continued with a dominant pace, where Ferrari improved, where Ricciardo once again proved he is the real deal and that Vettel doesn't adapt to the new cars very quickly.
It's early in a long season but it looks like Mercedes, Lewis and Nico have a damn strong advantage over everyone else.

Vettel has always sort of been a spoiled brat imho. You saw it all the time before his string of championships. It's easy to hide when you're the top dog on your team and everything is gravy in the points. Show him a little adversity and the true colors fly.
Keith Tanner wrote: Someone needs to slap Vettel around. Refusing to get out of the way of his teammate, waving his hands in the air and going on a tirade when passed by a faster Caterham (!). I've never thought he was a good racer, merely a good programmable robot who can take advantage of a superior car and expects everyone to make things happen for him. He's illustrating that well now. Ricciardo is rapidly making Vettel look like a spoiled brat.
he asked what tires his teammate was on … when told they were the same as his … he responded …"tough" … then teammate proceeds to pass him without any "help" and pull away by 19+ sec. this car really doesn't suit him/his driving style … here's hoping RBR doesn't start changing the car to suit him …
They need to change the car to suit him, that's how F1 works. Constant and rapid development. They just don't need to change Ricciardo's dramatically. I'm really hoping he'll get the results he deserves soon. And I think my wife is getting awfully fond of that big smile. Note to self, keep her away from Aussie F1 drivers past and present.
The amazing thing about the race was that, while Hammy was simply running away from everyone, he was also using less fuel. The BBC had a great post-race interview with him where he discussed the new driving style, and he's got it figured out. He also figures the "lift off and brake late" technique is actually faster.

That surprised me also since according to the numbers they were showing it was significantly less.

It was about 5% less. IIRC, towards the end of the race (5 laps left or so) he was at 88% used while the other cars were at 92-93%.
With Hamilton's pace advantage he could run the car in fuel saving mode most of the time, rather than need to use fuel to try to pass or defend against passes. Nico spent a lot of the race trying to get back to 2nd place, so he didn't have that option.

Yeah I hope he can keep the smile. All the drivers have that big smile when they get to the top level teams. Hamilton used to so tons of teeth every time you saw him the first year or two. I hope he can keep his optimism. I can already see him grimacing at some of the provocative questions from the media. Trying to trip him into saying something controversial.
I swear that while I do think Alonso is aggressive, I also think the media took advantage of his English as a second language errors to trash him a whole lot. I have worked with French and Spanish speaking Europeans and the sometimes do direct translation which can be mild in the native language but sound VERY rude in English.
Good Luck Ricciardo!

Based on watching Bahrain and I think it was China, you can see that Hamilton is in energy harvesting mode more often based on the new blinking light trick on the cars. He adapted his driving or the rules now fit his style such that he can store more energy and use that harvested energy to save fuel. At Bahrain it seemed to be one of the differences that allowed him to stay ahead of Rosberg. Harvesting energy when in sections that are too difficult for Rosberg to pass him in. This is a new kind of racing.
I am still hoping that HAAS makes the right move and purchases Lotus, instead of starting a new team from scratch. If that takes place perhaps they can invest into another driver other then Maldo. I just hope the other teams have figured it out and tighten the big gap that Mercedes has over the field. Hopefully we will have a different winner at Monaco.
gee... Vettel gets a replacement chassis... starts 15th based on a systems issue, and then drives through the pack to get 4th....

Yes impressive pace. Once the engine in the Red Bull gets closer to the MB unit's performance...Vettel and Ricciardo will be right up there with the MB guys.
Vettels run up was impressive, the 4/5/6/7/8 race was fun to watch, and the Mercs are still a second a lap faster than everybody else. The will have an insurmountable lead soon, I think, even if somebody else gets up close to their speed.
I'd wager $50 (that's a lot of money for me to bet) that the Merc is 100+hp up on the Renault... Maybe Red Bull should talk to Honda

HAAS has already contracted with Dallara and Ferrari as chassis/engine providers. IDK if Lotus with be around when those contracts expire.

If signed... I don't think the ink is dry yet... at least that was the impression given in the news articles, because they are on hold to hire 200 people once the do know the engine/drivetrain package. It does APPEAR to be Ferrari...

If they sign with Ferrari & Dallara it sounds like HRT all over again....The rich do not necessary stay rich in F1
In reply to trigun7469:
As I posted in the 2015 thread, the HRT-Dallara relationship didn't go to well, at least in Dallara's eyes. According to an article in Racecar Engineering- they had planned on doing quite a bit of development WITH HRT, but HRT took the chassis and turned their backs.
Not to say that Haas won't do the same thing, BUT he has said he will rely on the suppliers to help with the development of the car.
We'll see, but I would not put Dallara down as much as I would HRT. They wanted to work on the car. I'll have to spend some time in the library to see if I can find that article.

An honest mistake with good consequences. The reversing part was a bit dodgy but it must have been ok since there was no penalty.
The benefit was watching Lewis performing his "pouty little Louise" imitation.

I read about it online before I got to see it, People acted like it was obviously intentional. I was surprised at how mundane it seemed.
Per the tv graphic, the yellow was out almost instantly, before he pulled out, So can't blame it on that. Or were they just trying to say it was dangerous?
Looked like a mistake to me.
Hamilton's near-temper tantrum certainly was.
