Earlier today, Jensen Button ran around the awesome Mt Panorama circuit in an F1 car...and took 18 seconds off the lap record.

The chopper pilot shooting some of the chase footage wasn't a wuss either.
Craig Lowndes, the current record holder and an ex-F3000 driver, also took a shot at it and ran 1 second behind Button. As you can see, he was just tooling around.

I'm impressed by Lowndes's time. I know he's no stranger to open wheelers, (or that track), but still, there must be a world of difference between a V8 Supercar and an F1 car.
Yes, that is the MP4-23 chassis that Lewis won his championship in. I wonder how it suited Jenson's driving characteristics... It also was probably not suited to the tires, and had a lot more downforce than the current car.
Damn it looks good though.
Lowndes hasn't been in an open wheel car for at least 15 years, so his time is remarkable, especially as his first (and only) time in a F1 car.
Of course he knows every bump on the road at Bathurst.
He could have been in the circus if he had been able to stand being alone in a foreign country, but he was used to being the next big thing in Oz and not being just another hopeful.
